WEEDLESS LURES AND HOOKS
uring the course of a day's
fishing, the occasion. will often"
arise when better results Will
be obtained by using a weed-
less lure.
In heavily -weeded areas, it is
absolutely necessary to use a
Wtkealess lure to permit any
type of fishing at all. A weed-
less lure usually consists of
one or two wire prongs at-
tached to the front of the lure
running Own to just above
the point of the' hook
Although weedless lures are
by no Means foolproof, they
work well 'in most instances.
TIP OF THE WEEK
When weeds „come in contact
with the wire prong,, they
usually slide along it- and off,
leaving the hook free.
"One of the all-time favorite
weedless lures is the Johnson
Silver. Minnow. This weedless'
spoon has been an effective
lure over. the years in areas
abundant with weecjs and logs._
Should you be catight short
without a weedless hook in
your, tackle box, you can lin-
provise by using a rubber band
weed guard. Although this is
not a new idea and is not as
effective as a wire prong, it is
better than nothing and may
, make the difference between
success and failure.
Simply place the rubber
band oirer the shank of the
hook and run one end of it
thiough the eye of the hook
and pull it tight. ,Next, stretch
the,exposed end of the rubber
band and place it, over the
barb of the hook. Your hook is
, When using the rubber band
weed guard, only hooks with
large eye§ can be used as the
rubber band is too large to
pass' through the eye of small-
er hooks.

stick of the ferrule cem*ent with a match. Rub the ferrule
Cemott over the exposed glass end of the rod and reTilace
-the tip guide. Since the cement wilt harden almost
. instantly, you'll be fishing agairt.in seconds.
