Pleasure boat facilities
take another -knuckle rap
The possibility ofr) Securing
additional facilities - at Snug
Harbour for pleasure boats took
another rap ,on the knuckles last
week as R. E. McKinley, MP for
Huron, wrote reeve. Paul, Carroll
that, "recommendations from
Ottawa have been to the 'effect
that they do not feel any more
finances can be eicpended for
further facilities for pleasure
craft."
. Mr. McKinlby• visited the
Goderich Harbour and then
wrote to the Department. of
Public Works requesting they
give consideration to the
widening' of Snug Harbour so
that boats could be docked in
slips instead of alongside the
walkway.,
"I have asked them to
-consider this matter previous to.
waiting for any overall program,
which will include amarine for,
' the pleasure' boats in the river
north of the harbour." the MPP
wrote. "I have explained that
this development may be some
time away, and the present need
is urgent."
The department said that
further , expansion for pleasure
craft would require soxne
municipal finances.
Mr. McKinley said he,realized
this is too big an undertaking for
the town to get involved in and
consequently eXplained the
tremendous need to the
Minister. '

but who will enforce?
It appears.' to be the general
concensus' of Goderich town
fathers that this municipality's
bylaws, are not being enforced as
strongly as they. should be.
Between the re -occurring
episode of litter on Goderich"
boulevards and the consistent
barking of noisy canines, bylaw
enforcement .— or
non -enforcement -as the case
may be — tookup, most of .the
conversation at last week's
council meeting.

however, is not . the- full

authorities, , according to
councillor Ed Giesbrecht.
be reminded of that. It seems
they single out one bylaw."
•
The town's- newest council
member also said she has had
several complaints of barking •
dogs. She said she took the
matter to one `police officer and
he said• such noise was not
enforceable under local' bylaws.
Reeve " Paul Carroll, ' who
chaired the meeting in the
absence of mayor Harry Worsen
suggested something .more
concrete be done and council
agreed. to have.a special meeting
of council meet with• the chief of

Councillor Stan Prort
"I think it's time the
taxpayers realize they have an
obligation too,"Councillor
Giesbrecht remarked. "I just
don't think the town should be
responsible for taking grass
clippings, old stoves, etc. away."
