After all, the taxpayers certainly, don't want to'•subsidize a project that lets it be known right off the bat it isn't going to make money. * * * ***Or, as he wife said to her bill -checking husband, "Live within our means?. . we may be ,poor Henry, but we're not that bad, off.” * * * ***Last week,, our friend, (with a friend likethat who needs enemies you ask' Richard Madge socked it to us' with. 'a not -too -flattering letter -to the editor. It seemed' Mr. Madge was unhappy with the way we covered events in town. It would be easy enough for us to shake this off 'and give a simple reply to his letter, to whit: "it is only too unfortunate that we can't openly criticize your work, sir-" But we aren't going to settle for that. l'.'i•rst of all regarding,,our . lack Al coy„erage pr the odericll,..,.Lli tie _ Theatre.. I.. think, sir, if you will look at copies of Goderich's largest weekly newspaper preceding that group's production, kyou find quite a bit on the work that threatre is doing, not -only in columns, but also pictures. And p.ot only that, but I sincerely feel the public relations itself between the Little Theatre group and not only this newspaper but he,public in general leaves much tole e We have been associated pub! city-wi desired, with little theatre t • groups for many years, and if - we • have to leave everything up ,to the newspapers, be they weeklies or dailies,,;there just isn't too much publicity. Perhaps a public relations man is the answer -- and -if you are asking, Mr. Madge, I accept. The Treble Singers also received free advance publicity, and to cover it from. a press point of view at every performance doesn't add too,' much to .the readers' interest. From what we have learned so far these singers are doing one fine job and we aren't knocking them. We certainly hope to be at their next performance, or if not the • following one. .But it is just impossible to get to each and every event in town. ,The'Goderich Mihor Hockey banquet is ourthing and for Missing it, I must sincerely apologize. All I can add to that; Mr. Madge; is we have only been with this newspaper for something -like seven weeks. If you've never tried tackling a strange town from a writer's" angle — try it. But until you've tried it — don't knock it. Thank you, sir, and do write again.., * 1 * , • ***Reminds us of the wife who complained: "you love football more than you love'me.
