As a mother' with a child t.:3
enroll in kindergarten, I am very pa
interested in the discussions of
the Huron County Board of
Education concerning Acting
MOH Dr. Frank Mills' suggestion
that all children enrolling in,
elementar3i. school and in
secondary schopl should have a
thorough examination with a
record of tire findings on file
either at the school or at the
Huron County Health Unit.
I can certainly see the merit
in" such a plan as can many of
the board members. The idea
was born 'of the problems
encountered during the big -snow A
storm last winter when several
children with special health
problems had , to have medical
attention despite the storm.
It was Dr. Mills' position that
if the school Was aw -,•

the school aware if their. child
has some special medical
condition Such as diabetis,
epilepsy, a hfarkailment etc. But
surely the county medical
doctors will not have to become
involved' to the extent that they
are forced to make half-hearted
physical examinations when the
parents are lead to believe itis a'
thorough check. .,
.1 appreciate Dr. Barry
Deathe's complete honesty. He •
claims he hasn't time to make
theSe'examinations the way they
should be made. He doubts that
many doctors dohave the time.

The heavier red and green

-2cork/Mon1y available is 'Canada'
No. 1, To qualify for this grade,
the rhubarb must be fresh,
well -trimmed and of good color.
When storing, the stalks rnay..be
cut in, half and / placed,
unwashed, in a plastic bag in the
legigerator. . However, rhubarb
seems to keep better ,jf it is cut,
wIth or without washing, into 2
or' 3 inch pieces and placed in a
• plastic bag in the crisper. ,
Rhubarb is easy to freeze.
Fresh, firm, well -colored stalks
are best for freezing. Root ends
should be remo'ved after
washing. The stalks are then cut
into 1 inch lengths and packed
in freezer bags in the amounts
required for favorite recipes,
labelled and closed tightly. When,
using frozen rhubarb, thaw it.
Only enough to separate pieces,
then proceed'as for fresh.
When fresh rhubarb is used
for pies, it is usually cut into 1/2
or 3/4 inch pieces. The longer
length is preferred if rhubarb is
tel,,be cooked before it goes into
thd pie. A 9 inch pie requires
frotn 4 to 6 cups, depending 6n
thd type of pie. One pound of
rhubarb yields about 3 cups.
