Try ',this delicate torte The perfect shower dessert is one that is supee-pretty; but emerges from the kitchen at refreshment time without requiring any last-minute fussing. Whije they're baking, cook the base for, the fluffy filling, using a package of chocolate cream pudding and pie • filling. - On party night, before ,,the guests arrive, fold the prepared whipped topping into the pudding base, sprinkle the cut layers with a little' rum.and-water mixture," and assemble the tbrte. The rich chocolate glaze that crowns: •the top takes only a moment to stir up. It's all very 0 simple, but the finished torte is scrumptious and spectacular! ' - MOCHA RUIVLTORTE 1 package White cake mix 1, 3 cup water 1 tablespoon light rum* Mocha Fluffy Filling Light Semi -Sweet Glaze *Or use .1 teaspoon rum extract. Prepare cake mix as directed on package,, baking in two 9 -inch layer pans; cool.' Split each cake layer horizontally; set aside one top half. Combine 'water and ruin; set aside. To assemble torte, sprinkle one layer with about 1-1 2 tablespoons of Ann mixture. Then spread with about 3/4 cup of the filling. Repeat' with two other layers, being sure to position, layers before -sprinkling with liquid. Top with reserved layer, -c-ut- -side _dawn, and sprinkle with remaining Spread glaze over top of torte, - just to edge of top layer. Chill at least 2 hours. Garnish witn, chopped nuts -,-if desired. Makes 12 servings. - , MOCHA FLUFFY FILLING 1 package (4-serying size) chocolate cream pudding and pig filling ' 1 tablespoon instant quality coffee 1-12 cups milk 1 cup prepared Whipped topping Combine pudding , mix, instanf coffee, and , milk in saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a full boil. Pour into bowl. Cover surface of pudding with wax paper or 'plastic wrap. Chill. Remove paper; beat with rotary beater until smooth and creamy. Then. fold „ whipped topping into pudding. Makes,2-1/4 cups. LIGHT SEMI -SWEET GLAZE 1 square'serni•-sweet chocolate 3 tablespoons milk 'up sifted icing sugar Dash of salt 14 teaspoon vanilla Place chocolate and milk in saucepan over low heat. Stir constantly until , chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Combine sugar and salt in small • bbwl. , Gradually blend in chocolate 'mixture. Stir' in, vanilla. Makes about 1/3 cup. Add ihubarly; cover and simmer until just tender. Drain fruit • and reserve syrup. Arrange rhubarb Measure 1 1/2 cups syrup or syrup plus water. Place in ,§44cgian and slowly blend in syrup. When storing, the stalks rnay..be cut in, half and / placed, unwashed, in a plastic bag in the legigerator. . However, rhubarb seems to keep better ,jf it is cut, wIth or without washing, into 2 or' 3 inch pieces and placed in a • plastic bag in the crisper. , Rhubarb is easy to freeze. Fresh, firm, well -colored stalks are best for freezing. Root ends should be remo'ved after washing. The stalks are then cut into 1 inch lengths and packed in freezer bags in the amounts required for favorite recipes, labelled and closed tightly. When, using frozen rhubarb, thaw it. Only enough to separate pieces, then proceed'as for fresh. When fresh rhubarb is used for pies, it is usually cut into 1/2 or 3/4 inch pieces. The longer length is preferred if rhubarb is tel,,be cooked before it goes into thd pie. A 9 inch pie requires frotn 4 to 6 cups, depending 6n thd type of pie. One pound of rhubarb yields about 3 cups.
