•Goderich town council learned at a ,special meeting with
executive members of the Maitland Golf and Country Club
last night that the golf" club has :been privately -sold to
Darling -Delaware Co. Ltd., a firm whose main function is
the rendering of dead livestock.
"It is, unfortunate that the town hadn't made their
previous offer, earlier," a spokesman'forr the Country Club
said, "but officials of the rendering plant made us an offer
that was too attractive to turn down.
The spokesman could not, give further details on the
construction of the plant, nor did he say the agreement had
been given .the approval of town fathers.
He did say, however, that today is April -land this whple
thing is nothing but an April Fool's hoax.

Signs at the corner of

Town Council last Thursday
• evening.
The letter from Barker stated
that three or four accidents had
already taken place at that
cvnrner. As well there had been
"so many almosts."
The 'matter was' referred to
the public works committee of
which Councillor Ed Giesbrecht
is chairman. Councillor Stan
Profit opined that it would be
"an exercise in futility" to
request that his committee, the
Traffic and Safety committee,
handle the matter.
"Everything is done by public
works," mused Profit, "and
rightly so to a certain degree

work."
"It seems to simplify
matters," stated Giesbrecht, who
also suggested that he would

council has not ruled 'on the
matter. :Even. after a fairly
lengthy debate at - the 'last
meeting, a decision was held
over until Mayor Harry Worsen, •

has returned to council;
"I approve of meters in taxi
cabs if the cab . • owner , wants
them," stated Councillor Stan
'Profit. "I would hate to see the
day that council would tell me
how much, to charge . for a
haircut."
Councillor Reg Jewell said he
approved of the meters for. taxi
cabs .because apf the `•cterrific
overhead expenses'.' which must
be met. He indicated that some
price -cutting in taxi rates had
been reported in Goderich.
"They are in' some situatiotls
being undercut," stated
Councillor Ed Giesbrecht. :"They
have, proof to this effect_ If the
town 'had ,a' bylaw concerning
meters ,it would ,help. It would
be an efficient way of stopping
problems or conflict.'
"I wouldbe in favor providing
we could have' Some control,"
stated Deputy -Reeve Dave
Gower who'noted, that he wasn't
clear on whether the citizens of
Goderich would pay more or less
in the long run.
"These rates, .1 feel, would
fluctuate on different trips,"
mused Gower. '
