(oderich Art Club went in a
busload to Kleinburg to- see the
"Group of Seven" and other
-tanadian-artists'-paintings,They,
all enjoyed it.
This is something that. should ,
be repeated arid soon - if you
are interested, you ' might let
president Mary Howell know
about it and a list of names

tour. '

This winter she' toOk "Shop"
or "Carp.entry" or whatever we
call Mr. Murray McGill's class at ,
the , G.D.C.I. nite classes this
year. I, .too., was brave as could
be and walked right in Where
angels fear to tread,!

big 'girl - and a few noisy
'Machines don't scare her a bit.
She, decided - after the
preliminariesdor that she would
copy an antique "what:not" and
you may see the results of hr
labour from' the picture in this •
issue. ,
She very painstakingly traced
the„ outline of this lovely piece
, of. furniture which belonged to a
friend. She bought' a huge chunk
of mahogany and proceeded to
lay out,the pattern. Now, I don't
think Edna had done anything
TUST like this before and she
Wanted this to be a masterpiece.

the gib saw, she proceeded to
cut, the board into odd shaped
pieces. .
,Quite_a bit-olit_l_notiged was
being done with an electric hand
saw - like a coping saw, but, as I
said before, she is big enough to
hanlje any of the many
machines and so she soon had '
her "what -not" taking, Miape.
- Edna managed .to 'get a little
sanding in With her Office work •
',and phone calls and first thing
we knew • she had :shapecLA.he-'
qutside'-edge of thistig awkward
thing and the grace and flow of
the corner ornament holder was
beginning to really look sharp":—
I don't think she missed a
class all winter and even with
having to re -make one side eft,
-
she, still finished up ahead pf,
everybody: (Of course, Edna, all
that ,sanding done atthe office
helped 'a great deal - but we all '
know how hard you must .have
been scratching away at that
thing to get it -shaped and
smoothed down in these few
weeks.)
She now is '"bustin her
buttons" she js so proud of it -
and so she should be, as it is a
thing of beauty and certainly
shows the T.L.C. that "rriade it,
that way, A good piece of
furniture takes a goodly amount
of tender, loving Are and
.infinite patience. I",m afraid I
would have 'thrown in the
sponge1 mean the' sandpaper
- about the time the piece
broke off the one side - when it
'was practically finished, too! So
Edna you've done it again.

Edith has been a very good
wOrker with the Horticultural
Society and a faithful member
and a real auctioneer - I hear
in iihe bargain.
This group have a very
interesting meeting coming up
on April 7, Robertson School,
8:00 p.m. Ken Smith, the
well-known columnist of the
London Free Press, will be guest
speaker. He will have excellent
photos and slides to show, and
you are very welcome - in fact
they ask you to make an effort
to attend this Meeting.
