Carisave originiated in Great
Britain in 1919, largely through
the efforts of a dedicated
Englishwoman, Eglantyne Jebb.
She saw the impact of war and
natural disasters' on children, and
felt very strongly t hat there
should be an organization
dedicated to caring for them.
The first Canadian
Committee was established jn
1921 and operated until 1946
when 'a Federal Charter was
taken out. Divisions and
' branches exist in_ major centres
across Canada. Cansave is
goierned by a board of directors
elected at the annual meeting
each year.
Cansave is involved in
international projects. Current
examples are the N'Djili Health
Centre in the Congo and the
• Istanbul ••Da) Nursery with
training centre in Turkey. The
long-range objective is to raise
the level of 'child welfare
