Philips at the organ. T12e church •was beautifully decoPated for the Christmas season with lighted candles in the windows and colorful -rights on the Christmas tree. After singing several carols Mr. Torrance Tabb gave the Invocation prayer. A solo and � duet was sung by Mrs. W. Bradnock and Mrs. Donald Haines accompanied by Mrs. Haines. Mr:, Donald,fHaines read the Christmas story from the Gospel of St. Luke and Frankie Slater and David Cartwright of St. Mark's Anglican Church sang "Away in a Manger" accompanied by Mrs. Gordon Taylor. • Rev. John ' Ostrom •of Wingham led in prayer. On behalf of the Bible Society, Mr. Raithby welcomed all and regretted that the treasurer, Mrs. Sidney Lansing' was unable to be present due to her accident. The former treasurer, Mrs. Thomas Haggitt is acting in her place. Over, $358 have been sent in from this district. The offering was received by Mr. James Rice and Mr. James 'Powe and dedicated. Rev. and Mrs. n Ostrom of Wingham sang a t. astor Alfred Fry was the ker and chose for his iring message — "Thanks be God for His 'Unspeakable acc 4 spe insp unto Gift. * :4 * Colorful Christmas decorations adorned the Auburn Community Memorial Hall last week for the annual smorgasbord pot -luck luncheon of the Auburn Women's w :- Insti.tute.- members- and their guests. The president, Mrs. Leonard Archambault was in charge of the meeting. Christmas carols were sung with Mrs. (j- Donald Haines leading and Mrs. Robert J. Phillips at the piano. In the carol, "Silent Night," Mrs. Harold Campbell of Blyth sang the verses as a solo. Pastor A. Mrs. Haines thanked her „ and presented her with a gift. The assistant secretary - treasurer, Mrs. Gordon Chamney read the minutes..and gave the financial statement. A letter Was read from Huronview stating the commode chair had been ordered. A donation of $10 was sent to the War Memorial Children's Hospital, London, and $10 to the Huron County C.A.S.- along with gifts donated. Mrs. Andrew . Kirkconnell gave the card report and read the thank -you notes. An invitation to attend the 70th anniversary of the Goderich WI was read for February 4. The collection .was taken up by Lorie Cartwright and Marilyn Archambault. Cathy de Boer received the pennies for Friendship. An exchange of Christmas gifts took place and the meeting closed with the Queen. Hostesses were Mrs. Donald Haines, Mrs. Kenneth McDougall, Mrs, James Jackson and Mrs. • Charles Straughan, assisted by Mrs. Gordon Naylor. a: a: Stephen and David Sargent of London spent the weekend with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Brooks. Friends of; Mr. Fordyce Clark are pleased" to know that he has returned to his home in Goderich after surgery in the hospital there recently. Mr. and "Mrs. John R. Weir and Mrs. Elsie Eustace of London spent the weekend in the village. Mre Gordon Taylor, Miss Frances Houston and Mrs. Oscar de Boer judged the' decorated doors at. Blyth, last Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Elmer Keller of Dublin visited last week with her daug1 ter, Mrs. Harry Arthur, Mr: Arthur and family while Mr. Keller was a patient in Seaforth Hospital. St. Mark's -Anglican " Church held their Christmas Carol service at 3 p.m. with the rector Rev. Keith Stokes in charge. Mrs. Gordon Taylor presided at the. organ. Rev. Stokes told the Christmas story. Next Sunday service will be held at 4 p.m. Knox Presbyterian Church held their Christmas service with John Turner of Clinton in charge. Mrs. Donald Haines was at the piano. Next Sunday will be the final service as the members are amalgamating with Knox Church, Goderich, and the Church will be closed. "No room in the Inn",„was the' theme of the message given by Pastor Alfred Fry at the Christmas service last Sunday morning. Mrs. Norman Wightman was organist and accompanied for the special selections. The Young People of the congregation took charge of the service and provided the choir numbers. Scripture readings were given- by Miss Brenda Bali, Dana Bean and Sherry Plaetzer. Special readings were given by Nancy Lapp, Raymond Hildebrand, Holly Elliott and Douglas Du.rnin. The choir sang Star of the East and a trio composed of Misses Betty Moss, Nancy _ Anderson and Jennifer Grange sang. The choir also • sang "Macy's Little Boy Child." Miss Judy Arthur is home vacationing from Owen Sound School of Nursing with her parents, Mr. -and Mrs. Harry Arthur, Mark and Greg. ° We are sorry to report that Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Plunkett are both patients in Clinton Hospital. We wish them a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. William Straughan were guests last Sunday of their daughter, Mrs. Thomas Jardin, Mr. Jardin and family at Wingham on the occasion of their 59th wedding anniversary. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reick of Kitchener. * * *1 A lighted Christmak tree, poinsettias and lighted candles made an attractive setting in the Sunday School room Df .Knox United Church last"Wednesday evening for the UCW annual Christmas meeting. Mrs. Kenneth McDougall played Christmas music while members and guests were assembling. Mrs. Arthur Grange was in charge and opened the meeting with the hymn "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" followed by prayer. The scripture lesson, Luke : 2:1-20, was read by Mrs. Norman McDowell. Mrs. Maurice Bean read a portion _of Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol. A solo, "Dear Little Stranger," was sung by Mrs. W. Bradnock with duet in the chorus with Mrs. Donald Haines. The offering was received by Mrs. Ben Hamilton and Mrs. Torrance Tabb and dedicated. Mrs. Robert J. Philips played a piano solo, Star of the East. Mrs. Alfred Fry gave an inspiring message based on the theme, "What shall we give the God that has • everything?" She stressed that we all put Christ back into Christmas and give heart and Jif dedicated to His Service. Mrs. Bert Marsh conducted the "candlelight service lighting the • main candles and giving them to Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer and Mrs. Elliott Lapp who in turn lit the small candles and each along the line lit their small candles showing how we all can carry out the Great Commission to spread the Word of God around the world. After singing "Silent Night," 'Pastor Fry pronounced the benediction. A delicious lunch was served. * * Knox United Sunday School pupils and teachers held their annual Christmas ,concert last Saturday evening with a good attendance. Pastor Alfred Fry was chairman with the organist Mrs. Norman Wightman in charge of the music. A welcome was given by the primary class in charge of Mrs. L. Archambault. Murray Wightman was the reader throughout the presentation of The Three Gifts of Christmas. The Father's Gift, the Son's i4ift and My Gift were presented y all classes. The story was told y Glen Wightman and an instrumental was .played by Sherry Plaetzer. The Message of the Christmas Star was told by Keith Lapp. Mrs. Ross Andrews told the "Value of His Gift -- Himself" story and a song, "He Gave Himself,'' was sung. The Intermediates told about "The Dream" and a solo, "What Have I To Gibe Thee?" was sung by Miss Nancy Anderson. The superintendent Mr. Gerald McDowell thanked all and invited everyone downstairs for gifts and ice cream following Santa's visit. The proceeds of the 'evening • went to help support their adopted child. A�n�eel� la�d�es present pins to members The Christmas meeting of Ahmeek Chapter of the IODE was held December 9 in the Bedford Hotel dining room. Many_.m•embers..and their friends enjoyed a luncheon. The presentation of three 25 year pins was made to Mrs. Dodds, Mrs. Glazier and Mrs. Emmerson by the Regent. A fourth pin was to be presented to=Mrs. Tichbourne, a very active ando valued member, but owing to sickness Mrs. Tichbourne was not able to be present. After the meeting. the Regent, accompanied by Mrs. Dodds, presented the pin to Mrs. Tichbourne at the hospital, wishing her many, years of renewed health to wear -her pin., A 50th year pin Was also -to be presented but owing to unavoidable absence it will be, `presented at a later date. These presentations were followed by pictures shown by Mrs. Vincent. These pictures gave us some idea of many very beautiful spots in the countries south of Canada and were very much enjoyed by all. Mrs. Neville thanked Mrs. Vincent for giving us such an enjoyable afternoon. The next meeting to be held January 11 at the home of Mrs. C. Gibbons.
