Peter is a most attractive boy, 16'months old, of Scottish
and Irish descent. He looks quite slight, but weighs 254
pounds, so he's a sturdy fellow. He has soft blonde hair with
a slight curl, huge blue eyes, fair skin, and the irresistible
smile of the picture.
Peter was born very prematurely and had a lot of early
health difficulties: He has long since overcome them, except
for a tendency to colds, and seems to have made up for his
prematurity.
In infancy, ' Peter was diagnosed as having very mild
cerebral palsy (which means loss of muscle control) in his
left leg. It is exceedingly slight — he moves easily and
naturally and is well co-ordinated. This is not a progressive
condition, so it will not be more troublesome in the future
than it is now.
Peter is a healthy, happy boy, active and really strong.
If someone leaves a drawer open he chins himself on it. He
• has quite a big vocabulary and he loves music.
He will be a fine son for a family wanting a handsome,
cheerful, affectionate little boy. To,inquire about adopting
Peter please write to Today's - Child, Department of Social
and Family Services, Parliament Buildings, Toronto 182.
For, general adoption information ask your Children's Aid
Society.

Ann Landers,
Information for the ‘cnts'
DEAR ANN LANDERS: If
you think my letter is too
farrout to print} please think
again, More kids 'are into LSD
than adults realize. Some have
had LSD slipped into their
drinks without -knowing it. This
is what happened to me. The
following information is for
every cat who attends rock
festivals or hangs out with drug
users.
LSD takes about 45 minutes
to "connect". Before you start
tripping you'll feel a knot in the
back of your head. It's a definite
pressure. When . you realize
you've been drugged, don't
panic. Relax -and keep your cool.
Don't go off alone. Ask
someone in, the crowd to stay
with you. Don't drive a car.
Your sense of distance and
timing could be distorted. Your
vision is sure to be temporairly
impaired.
Don't look at •the sun. It
might result in serious eye
damage. You can- expect the
average , trip to last about 12
hours. When you come down
you won't remember where you
went or what you did, so don't
try.
Be prepared for flashbacks.
They are fairly common. This
means an unexpected trip, weeks
or even months after you've
dropped acid. 'If you feel a
flashback trip coming on, call a
friend immediately.
If you've .never had an LSD
experience and are considering
one, remember two things:_
First: Nobody know for certain
what LSD does to people, or if
the damage is permanent.
Second: There is evidence that
LSD has, in some users, altered
the chromosomes and caused
deformed babies. Happy.
landings, Brothers and Sisters
and good luck.. You'll need it,
BUTCH (S. CAROLINA)
•
;Dear Butch: May I add a
word to your, letter? You are
correct when you say no one
knows for certain what LSD
does to people, or if the damage
is permanent. We DO know
however that . _ LSD ., is . a
hallucinatory agent and that it.
often produces delusions of
indestructibility. Dozens of
acid -heads have walked out of
windows and jumped off
roof-tops*because they thought
they could fly. Others have been
killed when they ,stepped in
front of trains and cars
convinced they could stop
•
vehicles with their bare hands;.
The damage resulting frorn such.
acts as these is, of course, very
permanent.

Who puts Kool-Ade in herybaby's
bottle instead of milk?
My neighbor has been doing
this since her baby was eight
months old. She says; "Alfie.
doesn't care for milk but he
loves Kool—Ade."
Last week I kept Alfie for an
afternoon. My neighbor had, to
attend a -funeral and her sitter
didn't show up. When my back
was turned Alfie got a hold of
my baby's, bottle and drank
every drop of milk. I, never saw a
kid drain a bottle so fast in all
my life._

Alfie is one year old and his
mother fee, da him only baby
food. He doesn't walk nearly as
well as my child who is size
weeks younger. Little Alfie takes
a few steps and falls down. 1
don't believe the child's
pediatrician_ knows any of these
facts. Shotftd I call him and tell
him? Please advise me. A TRUE
FRIEND -
Dear Friend: No. Simply tell
Alfie's mother that he seemed to
enjoy your child's bottle and
perhaps she should try him on
milk again. A few days later you
might casually mention that
Alfie may be ready for table
food and suggest that she call
her pediatrician for , more
suggestions on , what _to feed a
year old child.

,Christmas(- k
By Sin S c ley
Christmas seems to emphasize
e
ow basic natures. 11 we're
slightly skeptical, we become
deeply cynical the closer the
day approaches. If we are in-
clined to be optimistic and
cheery, we are .apt to begin
wallowing in sentimentality.
It seems to get me both
ways. My natural skepticism
hardens into a surly misan-
thropy as the annual parade
of gifts and greed, cards and
carols, begins creeping toward
me. Not to mention the holy
old jump.in' putting up of the
tree, my annual struggle to
avoid insanity from frustra-
tion, and hell from blasphe-
my.
But my natural optimism
sneaks In, and once the dirty
work has been - done, I wax
sentimental to the point "of
tears over the wassail bowl,
the log in the fire, the smell
of singed spruce needles, and
the loved faces around me.
Neither attitis..right.,of_
course. Both are base. Christ-
mas' is a celebration. It should
be neither cynical nor senti-
mental, but joyous, in the
real sense of the word.
It could, and should be the
one day in the year when we
can creep closest ' to the
warmth of the basic teachings
of the man -god: love and
peace. It should be a day
marked by solemnity and jol-
lity, prayer and cheer,
It doesn't really have
much to do with turkey and
trimmings and tinsel, though
these don't hurt -anybody.
Nor does it have anything
to do with the number of
'cards . you receive, or the
value of the presents you
garner. Indeed, two or three
cards mean more to some
people than two or three hun-
dred to others. And a home -
knit scarf from someone can
mean more than a mink coat
from someone: else. (Hoe my
family doesn't read this
Easy enough to say. what
Christmas is not. It's more
difficult to say what it is, be-
cause it is intangible. -You
can't reach out and grasp the
spirit of Christmas. You must
feel it. If you don't, you're
dead, spiritually.
Naturally, ;'children get
most out or it» erhaps . it's.
because they don't look for
gimmicks,
There is a wonderful coat*
binatiop of, the . mystic and'
the materialistic that entran-
ces them, Little realists that
they are, they are fascinated
by the thought of goodies.
They love the hide,and-seek
aspect of gifts. Where's a great
thrill in opening, the- stock-
ings, and squeczing and rat -
ding things under the tree,
But they 'are ,equally en-
chanted by 'the' aura that sur-
rounds these material jollies.
The carols, the pageants, the
never -stale story of the birth
in the manger, the very smell
of Christmas: all these in-
crease-theirinner excitement
to thetibursting point.
It's also a day when they
can getaway with anything
short of murder, and they
know it,
This year, after the big
family—gatherings- -o-f- other
years, we'll have a slim crew,
but three generations. Granny
won't be there, but we'll ,
thinking about her. There'll'
be just Grandad and us and
daughter Kim. (At time, of
writing. We might wind up
with eighteen.)
There'll be early church.
Then the opening of gifts,
and thoughts . of son Hugh
1,000 miles away, and the
smell of turkey, and music,
and perhaps friends dropping
in for a drop. There's too
much talk about drop -outs
these ` days, and not enough
about drop -ins.
We'll have a big fire arid lie
on the rug, ,groaning, after
dinner. I hope it won't be as
lbi a; °fire ,.as last year, when
my wife set hire to the• ever-
greens on. the . mantel and
nearly burned down the
house,
This ,all qualified by the
word " hopefplly". it could
be a complete schniozzle, like
the year 1 dropped thepturkey
on the kitchen Door, as (,took
.it out of the oven. •
But 1 hope it's' peaceful,
"And 1 hope with all ray'heartr
whatever your situation, that
your Christmas will be blessed
.bypeace and love. T
