unattended for short periods,"
says Fire Chief Ted Bissett.

Electric heat
more popular
A report recently released by
Ontario Hydro, Western Region,
reveals that- +t oderich is making
rapid progress in electric heat
installations.
Of the eighty-four utilities
under the jurisdiction of Western
Region, Goderich was. second
only to, Sandwich West" in the
number of installations for the
first half of 1970. Sandwich
West reported 25 such
connections with Goderich, 20.
The local utility also made a
creditable showing for the same
period in electrically heated hot
water tanks installed having
placed sixth.
P.U.C. Manager Dave Rolston
stated this week the rapidly
growing fuse of electric heat, the
additional power for Goderich's
expanditig industries, as well as a
growing overall demand for
power for ,domestic purposes, isf
contributing greatly to
maintaining our present .
favourable rate standard.
parents to recognize the fire
danger of this season, and not to
leave small childrien alone in the
home even for a moment. He
points out that the Criminal
Code of Canada forbids such
action which endangers the life
or health.of any child under the
age of ten years.
Parents are further reminded
that under certain conditions a
Christmas tree can be ignited by
a single match to burn furiously
to charred wood in a few
seconds. Care must be taken to
keep butts of natural trees
immersed in water, and to
ensure that the tree itself does
not obstruct access to a door or
window. Families are also urged
to review their home fire escape
plans, for quick exit in an
emergency.
