Spons"ared OHA Intermediate
"B" hockey team.
Before Goderich acquired an
OHA Junior "B" franchise in
1956, the town's Kinsmen were
sponsoring an OHA
intermediate "A" hockey team.
A Signal Star report on
hockey prospects. for the coming
419.47-'48 season informs us as
follows:
"Hockey fans this season will
have a chance to see just about
every type of hockey they
desire. ' After several years
absence, intermediate hockey is
returning to town. The
Intermediate team, known as the
Kinsmen, will have as coach Walt
Westbrook, who last year had a
highly successful season with the
Louzon Flyers, Junior "C"
champions.
Although they will be playing
Charter given to Clinton Kin
'- At a special meeting
sponsored by the Goderich
Kinsmen Club, the charter was
officially, presented to the
newly -formed Clinton Kinsmen
Club.
The presentation was made
by Governor William Golby of
Chatham, . to President Trey.
Janson, of Clinton, before 150
Kinsmen gathered from all
points of Western Ontario.
Guests included: Mr. Rogers,
father of Hal. Rogers, founder of
the Kinsmen Clubs, and Lorne
Brown,- president of Clinton
Lions Club.
President 'Jerry Knechtel of
Hanover, past national president
of Kinsmen, installed the
Clinton executive.
in an intermediate "B" grouping,
the Kinsmen are of intermediate
"A" status, according, to the'
OHA, and as such, receive a bye
into Intermediate "A"
playdowns."
In their first season in OHA
Intermediate "A" ranks,
Kinsmen were eliminated by
Ingersoll after the "Cheesetown
,Hellcats" had beaten the local.
club in' two out of three
encounters.
The Kinsmen's intermediate
"A" hockey team fared no
better the following season
according to a Signal Star sports
story in February, 1949:
"The third and deciding game
in the playoff series between
Wallaceburg and,. Goderich
Kinsmen in the intermediate
OHA "A" series was played at
Sarnia on Monday night.
Wallacel.urg won with a close
score, 7-6.
The Kinsmen won the first
game at Wallaceburg 2-0 but
were beaten on their home ice
6-4."
