afflicted with the disease will
not discuss it and perhaps, hate
to admit even to themselves that
their children will probably not
live to be very old.
It is a sad, sad thing when
cystic fibrosis hits. Everyope
feels helpless, frustrated, and
perhaps even a little bitter that
fate has dealt them such a cruel
blow.
Please don't question Jan's
motives for working for the
cystic - fibrosis cause. Rather,
remember that children are
dying from this disease which
takes years and years to claim its
victim, especially if the sufferer
• is well cared for by parents and
doctors.
By the way, Jan has
discovered that' 95 percent of
the money taken infor the sale
of Christmas cards goes directly
to the cystic fibrosis foundation.
That's a pretty fair percentage
I'd say.
It still isn't too late tobuy
your eystic, fibrosis greeting
cards. You can order them at the
Coach House frrot. Beth and
Brian. Markson who are
volunteering this service just
• because they want to help out.-

I note that the Children's Aid
Society in Huron County is,
looking for '- groups - and
organizations to help out this
Christmas. what a wonderful
way to say "thank -you" for all
the blessings most of us enjoy.
By the way, there is a
program on Channel. 8 Wingham
- each Wednesday afternoon at
2:30 o'clock entitled "Family
Finder." It tries to (find homes
for youngsters who for no fault
of their own, have no mother' or
father to love them and care for
them.
I'm usually at work when this
program is aired so I rarely get
an opportunity to see it. I would
appreciate ' your comments
concerning it. I really wonder if
this type 8f a program hits home
,as it should .....and maybe you
could tell me your reactions.

I don't mean to make this a
commercial, but I must say I was
• impressed with the wig show at
Goderich Psychiatric Hospital
last Wednesday in connection
with the annual bazaar and tea.
Local hair stylist Ernie was in
charge and provided a real treat
for the ladies in attendance. And
there certainlywas a great
enthusiasm following his show
for ,ther'wigs on display. There,
was a fair demand for the
mirrors as quite a few ladies
went to the platform to try on
the synthetic wonders that
weigh just 4 oz. each!
The bazaar itself seemed to be
a rollicking success. Mrs. Anne
Redmond told. me she was
delighted with the attendance
both afternoon and evening, and
she seemed quite satisfied with
the sales of merchandise
• prepared by the occupational
therapy people there.

The first babysitting course
sponsored by the Kinettes is
over and about 40 girls were on
hand last Wednesday evening to
try their examination.
I really believe the Kinettes
have taken a positive step
towards providing the best
possible selection, of responsible
baby sitters for the parents in
town. The members of that
group are to be congratulated ..-.
and of course; the girls who took
the course are to be commended
for their. efforts.
I think ,the Kinettes have
learned something from running
this first course, and that it is

very likely that the second
course after the new year will be
all the better for it.
There is still no word
regarding a baby sitters' registry
although I believe there is- some
hesitancy about it since there is
a feeling that there is too much
work and too much
responsibility, involved for the
person in charge. That may be
true ..-, and it may not'be a very
good idea after all,'

I have had another call
from a woman who is interested
in a local Consumers'
Association. The lady would like
to help out in any way she can;
although she is somewhat
limited as to her activities
because ,she is getting up in
years.
However, she feels keenly
enough about this thing to be of
help in- the organization of a
Consumers' Association to offer
to make telephone nails etc. —
duties which will not demand
that she leave her home too
often.
I have on my desk today a"
copy, of the October Consumer
Information Digest. It tells of a
special Consumer Guide for
Senior Citizens prepared by the
Department of Financial and
Commercial Affairs in
co-operation with the
Department of Social and
Family, Services which is
available to all Ontario's 'senior
citizens.
This handy document
contains a -check list :of do's and
don'ts on credit buying, home
repairs, mail and door-to-door
"bargain schemes; lists sources of
information and provides basic
information on health care.
While it was developed
specifically for senior citizens, it
can just as easily be used by any
adult seeking a quick and
readable guide on consumer and
related matters.
Anyone can get this
wallet -sized guide simply by
contacting the Information
Officer, Department of Financial
and Commercial Affairs, 555
Younge St., Toronto 5, Ontario.
