HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1970-11-26, Page 3Around GDCI noy Miss Julie' BY CINDY LEE.KING On Tuesday, November 17, an outstanding performance of the play, "Miss Julie," was given for the fourth and fifth year students at G.D,C.I. If there was one unfavourable comment concerning a this' production, it certainly was not openly expressed, * A great deal of the credit should be directed to Mr. Robinson for his efforts in tieing together the individulal talents of this year's Drama Club to produce something more than just a high school play. Sherry Moore (Miss Julie), played the role of a rich, nervous, frustrated and unmarried woman, torn between the beliefs of her mother (that all men are to be hated) and her own feelings as a female. Sherry handled an extremely. difficult e role- well, using her own natural style. Brian Dunlop provesquite promising with 'his ability to play right.. to the audience. His aloof attitude towards the other characters comes out just at the right moments, adding that extra touch of humour. Margo Bettger portrayed the cook and appeared; to lift the Play everytime she entered a scene. Her ejttraordinary costumes were the work of Linda Reinhart who is already known for her talents in that department of the Drama Club. Penny Widler and Bill McGee (two other servants) could' not help ° but make the audience laugh. ' - If future productions of the Drama Club are as well done as "Miss Julie", then' this year will surely be a success for them. • Students in Kitchener BY -SANDY MAIZE' As you have probably read in a previous story, the Geography students. of Kitchener have already visited Goderich and it became Goderich's turn to go to Kitchener. Our students left for Kitchener ' on 'November 9 at about 8:45 a.m. and they arrived in Kitchener at about 10:30 a.m. Their first " stop was at the High School washrooms. They then ...went, downtown to walk and 'map, andobserve the new and old buildings, what was being torn down and what was being, newly built. They also visited the - Central Business District. On their noon hour they had a traffic count of the types of cars, buses, ''heavy trucks and light trucks. Next was a bus tour whi8h was planned by the planning department. They had a guide, Miss Diane Macri, a planner and a university student. She pointed out things to look at in the new part of the city and the old part, and the problems of planning a city, as well as how it is done. Monday night they were billeted by Grand River Collegiate students. ` ..0045'‘,..they w ted. J M. Seh eider's i I ; ong 1 h market oriented industry where they have keen research on new products. Arrow opened their storeroom for students to buy clothes ' at a discount price. Students found this very dollar saving. They arrived home about suppertime. They would like to thank Mr. Rittinger and Mr. Stewart for the interesting and enjoyable trip.
