Auburn Baptist
Church marks
62 years service'
The Auburn Baptist Church
will have been opened 62 years
ago oh November 20 . and
continues to hold services every
SuPday.
The Baptist members had
previously worshipped in a
church on the Baseline before
coming to the village having,
been formeetin 1860. A log
schoolhouse, where Mr. Maitland
Allen's house now stands was
made available to Rev. T.
Sinclair who had come from
Wingham to found the first
Baptist Church in this
community. Afterwards for a
time the seriices were held in
Young's school in Colborne
Township, three miles west of
Auburn.
In 1868, a wooden structure
was erected four miles south of
Auburn on the Baseline. This
church was provided with,seats
of sawed pine luml3er with a
suitable back rest a great
improvement . to benches. of
wooden slabs. The official
opening of this church was
December 20, 1868. •
However as time went on
there was felt that a church
should be built in the • village, so
on September 15, 1908, the
corner stone laying and
dedication service.was held.
Mr.. E. T. Fox of Toronto
graciously accepted to be
present to lay the cornerstone.

Porq!
Who pig -tailed the Q on to good old pork?
We did! PO RQ stands for Pork from Ontario being Real Quality.
Now here's why:
Ontario researchers and farmers have top worldwide standing in.
developing lean healthy hogs.
Ontario pork, as processed in Federally inspected plants, meets the highest
standard's for protein quality and easy digestibility.
The variety of Ontario pork is so endless you can enjoy it often — and in
many regional gourmet dishes. •
PORK: A Good Buy Becomes Better!
'Between 1960 and 1970 some pork prices in Canada rose while others fell.
Two which came down in price, even despite inflation, were porkshoulder
and cottage roll. In October 1960 the average retail price of pork shoulder in
Toronto was 60.4 cents a pound; in September 1970, 59.7 cents a pound.
And in the same period, cottage roll in Toronto fell from 76.9 cents a pound
to 73.1 cents a pound.
...That's why the Huron County
Section of the Ontario Pork Producers says:
PORQ!
for more than 200 young
'competitors:
For last year's winner. Karen
Graham of Parkhill, Ontario
preparation meant feeding her
calf, brushing it's coat, and
taking it for walks regillarly.
"What did I get out of it? Mostly
the honor,”. she says. •
"The kids that aren't in the
competition don't know what
they're missing."
The tradition of the Guineas
dates back to 1861 when King
Edward VII, then Prince of
Wales placed a sikm of money in
trust with theAgriculture and
Arts Society of Upper Canada.
When the society ceased to exist,
the fund was turned over to the
Ontario. Department of
Agriculture in perpetuity. The
Queen's Fifty Guineas are
provided annually' from that
fund.
Judging is in four classes
— • AbrJrdeen. Angus, He-reford,
Shorthorn, and Crossbreds or
9ther breeds. The exhibitors of
the champion steer in each class
receive a cash prize from the
Ontario Department of
Agriculture and Food. The
Grand Champion is chosen from
among them.
Tom Scott from Ninga,
Manitoba, the judge last year,
has the same task again this year.
