HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1970-11-12, Page 5N A' Where is peace P During the 'weelesurrounding November. 11, services are held across the ' nation to commemorate precious loss in wars. Mainly the emphasis is on the two world conflicts which tarnished the human horizoh of man. There were others„and each one, in its own way, 'blemished man's search for peace. The bloodletting of .World War I; on both the Eastern and Western Fronts (remember Passchendaele, and the Somme,, to and Tannenberg?), was improved in .a marked degree in World War II in that women and children also became fair game. No' wonder the cry goes forth, "Where is Peace, and what is Peace?" Let us get down to facts quickly: Peace is born in the hearts of men. If you read St. John 3 you will be confronted by the tremendous meeting between Christ Jesus and Nicodemus. Iv Christ's injunction to Nicodemus was, "Ye must be born again." That .is the basis of Peace ' for our world! In the process of turning one's life to Christ as the one -only Saviour one finds the delectable gift of Peace. It is born in us through the great love Christ possesses for each one of us. This is an ongoing happening! It does not die with the. dawn "of a new _.day! It is unsurpassable Peace! When we become righted with God through His Son all of life's relationships take on a new vibrance. Man becomes a different picture. His betterment, and advancement, and peace of mind become A concerns of the bbtn-again Christian. We set • out to make peace with all` Men — no matter what color, or creed, or religion. It is lo' a we take to men and when we take love we cannot take anything other than Peace. We are diligent in the pursuit of forgiveness. The Christian is always ready to forgive — and forget! He is possessed of a peaceful intent toward all the brethren. Thus, we must say, without reserve, that Peace is born in the hearts of mien. , But — if this Peace is to exist within 'us then it must come from somewhere. AS Christ 'says to Nicodemus (St. John 3), "ye must be born again." So, we seek an experience in the Master. He has come to us and we are called ' upon to respond. He points His finger to Calvary and says, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." He says, "It is done." This -is part of the "somewhere" from which springs our Peace. Our sins are absorbed into Christ as He dies and our reconciliation with the Father is a reality. He has taken our place. His suffering is vicarius. Then, there is the Garden. What of it? The great voice out of the tomb says, "He is not here: He is risen!" Life everlasting becomes a fact . ,of life! Christ has overcome 'death and the last enemy! This is our springboard to a hall owed Peace. Out of this comes, our strength to live day after day. The Risen Lord is with us SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY SERVICES AT Calvary Baptist Church NOVEMBER 15 . 10:00 a.m. — SUNDAY` SCHOOL 11:00 a.m. — MORNING WORSHIP. Ile goes witb,,..us into our places of commerce, our schoolrooms, our homes, our families, our times of pleasure. He is never absent! ° Out of this comes Peace. And Christ does not deny any man — He calls us all! So, brotherhood is keenly born in the experiences of Christ Jesus for us. Thus, peaceful intent toward all -becomes a riecessity, of the Christian- vocation. We set outto seek and to save. Not by words alone! By actions and deeds and sensitivities. Peace can come! But, first, it must find its habitation firmly established in the hearts of men. It can start with one -spread to another — and another - and' "° Will it start with you?
