Opening cerernon for arena Sunday Those .who have 'nod been inside the Goderich Memorial Arena since the extensive renovations were completed will - be in for a surprise when the official opening ceremonies take place this Sunday at 2 P.M. In charge of the program will . be Councillor Paul Carroll, Chairman of the Goderich Recreation and Community Centre Board, which organization has made all arrangements for the event. Launching the afternoon's program will be a gathering of representatives of the various organizations 'which have made donations towards • the renovation of the Arena. They .will be entertained ' by the Recreation Board at 1 P.M. These groups are: Branch 109 Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies • Auxiliary to the ' Legion; Kinsmen Club, Lions Club, Kinettes, Rotary'Club. At 2 P.M., the formalities take place. Among those expected to • attend are:: Provincial- Treasurer Charles --MacNaughtorr --Murray- Gaunt, Huron -Bruce M.P.P.; Goderich Town - Council; Go derich Recreation and Community • Centre Board, Huron's M.P., Mr. McKinley was expected to attend but will not be back in time from attending a NATO Conference in Europe. The surviving members of the original Arena Commission will be present: Ron Menzies; A.R.Scott, Earl Westbrook and Waiter Westbrook. The Goderich Town Band will # provide music for the occasion. A re -dedication service will be conducted by Rev. G.L. Royal. M There will be no admission charge. Rev. Carman J. Queen of Windsor and Bishop of -St. Clair is the new Bishop oft the Anglican Diocese of Huron, filling , the vacancy created by the death of Bishop George Naismith Luxton on October 2. Bishop • Queen . becomes the seventh bishop to be elected in the Diocese. The election was held at St. Paul's Cathedral, London on Monday. The suffragan Bishop Queen, took the lead from the first ballot. Lay votes rose to -273 and --clerical-ter 125----on--the--third.- ballot taken which automatically elected him. He will officially assume his new duties some time in January, 1971, after his enthronement as -Bishop. Bishop Queen was born in Egremont ' Township, Grey County. It is interesting to note that his birthplace is only about ten miles distant from Mt. Forest, the birthplace of the late . Bishop Luxton. • Bishop Queen graduated from the University of Western Ontario and Huron College in 1937. He was ordained in 1938. HYDRO .RATES Goderich P.U.C., • at its m e e ting Tuesday evening decided it would make every effort to absorb increased cost of hydro which will be levied on' Ontario municipalities to take effect' January 1, 1971. They hope there will be no increase in hydro rates to Goderich customers in 1971 but a.survey of P.U.C. finances will ade after,_the books are balanced for the year before a final decision is made. Deputy -Reeve Sheardown opened a discussion on . the question of whether the grant from the Legion would be paid to the Recreation Board or the Town, Councillor Carroll stated this expenditure was not included` in the ' Recreation. A group of young Japanese executives was in Goderich last Thursday, guests of the Hoary 'Club. The group is touring - District 633 of Rotary International for six weeks. Prevett, 59', well-known . . Goderich businessman who died suddenly, following a heart attack, at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, on Monday, November 2. Rev. G. G. Russel conducted the service, 'assisted by Rev. G. L. Royal. A further service was held at Christ Anglican Church, Petrolia with Rev. G. Menzies officiating. Interment was in Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia. A Masonic memorial service was also held on Wednesday evening at McCallum Funeral Home. Pallbearers were all staff members of Goderich Motors Ltd., James . Fooks, Ralph Josiing, Bill DeJong, Ben Smith, Armand Bedour and Tom Rompf. Attending the funeral in a body were members of the Goderich Lions Club and the board of Alexandra Marine and General Hospital. ' - Mr. ---.Preyed ---was .• born ..,in Sussex, England, a son of the late William Prevett and Alice Standen. He lived at Petrolia, Ontario, until 1937 when he moved to Goderich, where he has been owner and operator of Goderich Motors Ltd.," for the •past 33 -years.
