for arena Sunday
Those .who have 'nod been
inside the Goderich Memorial
Arena since the extensive
renovations were completed will -
be in for a surprise when the
official opening ceremonies take
place this Sunday at 2 P.M.
In charge of the program will
. be Councillor Paul Carroll,
Chairman of the Goderich
Recreation and Community
Centre Board, which
organization has made all
arrangements for the event.
Launching the afternoon's
program will be a gathering of
representatives of the various
organizations 'which have made
donations towards • the
renovation of the Arena. They
.will be entertained ' by the
Recreation Board at 1 P.M.
These groups are: Branch 109
Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies •
Auxiliary to the ' Legion;
Kinsmen Club, Lions Club,
Kinettes, Rotary'Club.
At 2 P.M., the formalities take
place. Among those expected to
• attend are:: Provincial- Treasurer
Charles --MacNaughtorr --Murray-
Gaunt, Huron -Bruce M.P.P.;
Goderich Town - Council;
Go derich Recreation and
Community • Centre Board,
Huron's M.P., Mr. McKinley was
expected to attend but will not
be back in time from attending a
NATO Conference in Europe.
The surviving members of the
original Arena Commission will
be present: Ron Menzies;
A.R.Scott, Earl Westbrook and
Waiter Westbrook.
The Goderich Town Band will
# provide music for the occasion.
A re -dedication service will be
conducted by Rev. G.L. Royal.

'Rt. Rev. Carman J. Queen of
Windsor and Bishop of -St. Clair
is the new Bishop oft the
Anglican Diocese of Huron,
filling , the vacancy created by
the death of Bishop George
Naismith Luxton on October 2.
Bishop • Queen . becomes the
seventh bishop to be elected in
the Diocese. The election was
held at St. Paul's Cathedral,
London on Monday. The
suffragan Bishop Queen, took
the lead from the first ballot.
Lay votes rose to -273 and
--clerical-ter 125----on--the--third.-
ballot taken which automatically
elected him. He will officially
assume his new duties some time
in January, 1971, after his
enthronement as -Bishop.
Bishop Queen was born in
Egremont ' Township, Grey
County. It is interesting to note
that his birthplace is only about
ten miles distant from Mt.
Forest, the birthplace of the late .
Bishop Luxton.

Bishop Queen graduated from
the University of Western
Ontario and Huron College in
1937. He was ordained in 1938.
From 1937 to 1943 he served at
Princeton, Drumbo, Ayr,

became archdeacon of Huron
diocese in 1958.
HYDRO .RATES
Goderich P.U.C., • at its
m e e ting Tuesday evening
decided it would make every
effort to absorb increased cost
of hydro which will be levied on'
Ontario municipalities to take
effect' January 1, 1971.
They hope there will be no
increase in hydro rates to
Goderich customers in 1971 but
a.survey of P.U.C. finances will
ade after,_the books are
balanced for the year before a
final decision is made.
All of the present members of
the P.0 C. intimated at the
meeting That . they • will, seek
re-election at the nomination
meeting on November 23.
CORRECTION
In the report of the death of
Malcolm Davidson who died
accidentally November • 3, the
Goderich Signal -Star incorrectly.
gave the maiden name of Ms.
Davidson as the former Jane M.
Lodge. Mrs. Davidson was the
former Jane Walrnark of
Goderich.

Remembrance
Day Service.
There was a large ;turnout of
veterans for • the annual
Remembrance Day service
before . the War Memorial in
Court House Park on Wednesday
morning., `parade Marshall was
Ralph Kingswell.
Rev.. G. G. Russell delivered
an "inspiring address for the
occasion. Rev. R. - L. Raymont-
read the Scriptures.- \Chairman

for Branch 109, Royal Canadian

Goderich's Laketown Band
provided the martial music..Mr.
Ralph Henderson led ' in the,
hymn singing.
Many wreaths -- were laid
including the one from the
Province of Ontario by a silver
• cross wife, Betty Westbrook.
A group of young Japanese executives was in Goderich last
Thursday, guests of the Hoary 'Club. The group is touring -
District 633 of Rotary International for six weeks. Seated in "4
front, left to right,' are Stu Shanks,Goderich tour chairman;
Kenichi Tanaka, the district, governor's representative, an
• innkeeper =from' Shimoda and the only Rotarian in the group;
and Mayor 'Dr. Frank Mills. Standing' at back, left to right, are
•Makoto 'Sone, employed by Shizuoka Gas Company, a
manufacturer of lighting, equipment; Tamotsu Fukushima, an
employee in the Ductile Iron Casting Section of the Automobile
Iron Canting Company, Tsiiirtum; Mamoru Kawaguchi, manager
of the Development Department of the Products Development
Division of the Toshiba Pharmaceutical Company; Dennis
Fincher; Dave Gower; Shingo Kurita,,of the Uyeno Transport
Company_; an unidentified driver who accompanied the
Japanese group; and- Hiroaki -Ohba, an- mployao of the futaba
Tsushinsha advertising agency. The group was shown two
unique operations, the salt mines and the Dominion Road
Machinery plant. They also had a tour of 66 town, the airport,
the harbor and the Court House Square to give a picture of fife
in a typical Canadian srhall town.(staff photo).

newspaper -• but from a bed in
Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital.
Mr. Price's ailment is not
serious but he will be 'hung up'
for sometime -- just how long,

meeting were read and adopted

The Blood Donor Clinic of the. Canadian Red Cross Society
will be held at Goderich on Wednesday, November 18. It will

Goderich .business man
A largely attended funeral
service was held at St. George's
Anglican Church Thursday
morning for , Stanley H. Prevett,
59', well-known . . Goderich
businessman who died suddenly,
following a heart attack, at
Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital, on Monday, November
2.
Rev. G. G. Russel conducted
the service, 'assisted by Rev. G.
L. Royal. A further service was
held at Christ Anglican Church,
Petrolia with Rev. G. Menzies
officiating. Interment was in
Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia.
A Masonic memorial service
was also held on Wednesday
evening at McCallum Funeral
Home.
Pallbearers were all staff
members of Goderich Motors
Ltd., James . Fooks, Ralph
Josiing, Bill DeJong, Ben Smith,
Armand Bedour and Tom
Rompf.
Attending the funeral in a
body were members of the
Goderich Lions Club and the
board of Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital. '
- Mr. ---.Preyed ---was .• born ..,in
Sussex, England, a son of the
late William Prevett and Alice
Standen. He lived at Petrolia,
Ontario, until 1937 when he
moved to Goderich, where he
has been owner and operator of
Goderich Motors Ltd.," for the
•past 33 -years. He was believed to
be the youngest Ford dealer in
Canada in 1937.

Canadian Bible Society initiated
its 1970 campaign November 9.
The returns from the Monday
blitz indicate a good beginning
but there is a long way to go to
reach the $1600.00 goal.
