Helping Hands celebrate
20 yrs. of service
President Mrs. J. H. Johnstone
was hostess for a dinner party
recently" to mark the 20th
anniversary of The Helping
Hands, a local group dedicated
to Service.
There were three guests 'for
the' ° evening including Master
Richard Sizer, Mrs.. Charles
Stokes and Mrs. Howard Caribil.
Richard Sizer made the
presentation of a Bouquet of fall
flowers to each guest and
member present.
A • short devotional meeting
was held with Mrs. E. Baechler
reading the Scripture. - The
special soldier's prayer was given
by Harold Johnstone and David
Elliott provided the 'thought for
the day. Mrs. Johnstone closed
the devotional with prayer_
The hostess demonstrated the
art of' decorating a cake and
displayed some of the entries she
had at the fall fairs in the
district. Mrs. Johnntope told her
guests she had won 180 prizes
this fall including 15 special
prizes.
Games were played during.the
social hour, the winners being
Mrs. Baech-ler, Harold
Johnstone, Mrs. Annie Bere,
Mrs. Carroll, , Mrs. Stokes and
David Elliott.
During the business portion of
the meeting, Mrs. ' Carroll
received a gift of $18 for ,the
workshop for retarded adults.
The Helping Hands have made
'donations in the pastto the
retarded youngsters but in
• - recent. years has been •concerned
- with the workshop for retarded
adults.
A resume of the year's work
of The Helping Hands showed
that 400 visits have been made
to the elderly, sick and shut-in in
the community. As weld, there
were • 515 personal kind deeds
reported.

month for a drive for
membership. Several new.
members joined at the October
meeting.
Women in Goderich and
district who are interested in the
work of the Hospital Auxiliary
are • welcome to become
members and to become
involved •in worthwhile projects.
The first viee-presjdent,, Mrs.
F. Bowra, presided at the
.:well -attended meeting. •
Candy stripers are to be
provided with name tags while
on duty at the hospital. They
will also be• given awards for.
