Dunlop groups join DRAFTY KIDS BY KAREN MacPHEE HIKE• J We held our nature hike on October19 starting at Mrs. Hoernig's place. We went ,back. through the bush, where we came to the river, upstream a little from . Mr. MacClaren's. After a while, we proceeded to continue up the hill to Stewart's bush. Although we were rather noisy some of us detected a few phickadees chirping., At .Mrs. Hoernigs's we all enjoyed a Weiner and marshmallow roast and chit chat afterwards. ' MEETING FOUR We held our fourth' meeting on October 26 at Carlow Hall with the pledge, Jean Rutledge read the minutes of the last meeting. The Roll Call: Do you presently have a first-aid kit and where is it kept`? was answered by all members. We have decided to call ourselves Tiger Dunlop Krafty Kids 1 which was suggested by Cathy MacPhee. A cover is to be handed in by" all members next week. The 4-H members have been invited to attend a flim on `Drugs' which will be shown on Wednesday night by the Institute ladies with Police Chief Minshall commentating. We then discussed different methods of fust -aid and what to do if an accident occurred and you were present. On ;the sixth meeting we have invited Miss Hunt our Home Economist to attend. We hope to go to Colborne, Central School where we will do some. exercises and maybe' a game of 'volleyball afterwards. - gathy MacPhee then closed with the creed. MEETING 5 • We opened with the pledge on November 2 at Carlow Hall. The Roll Call: The ' name and outstanding accomplishment of the per§on whom you have written about was answered by most: We chose our' cover (a rabbit) drawn by Nancy Brindley.members were pren t. The film on `Drugs' was attended by most. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all. 4-H hike This meeting we discussed treating burns. After this was completed, Mrs. Hoernig demonstrated "Artificial Respiration" with Cathy MacPhee as victim: We then chose a partner and attempted artificial respiration. - We then worked bn our crafts and notes. Judy Taylor closed with„ the creed. TIGER DUNLOP 11 BY KAREN TAYLOR The third meeting,of the -Tiger Dunlop 11 •1-H club was held on October 5 at Carlow Hall. The meeting was opened with .• •the pledge.- The ,roll call, "An Interesting .Place 1 have visited," was answered by the members. Marj. Taylorread the minutes of the last meeting. Norririe Brindley read the treasurer's report. The leaders discussed "The Physically Fit Person". It was decided to join Tiger Dunlop 1' for the hike on October 19. We were to meet at . Wendy Hoernig's place aid follow along the Maitland River. After the hike a Weiner roast was planned. The rest of the meeting was spent on their crafts. All the members .were in• favour. Karen Taylor discussed First Aid in the Home. Use of a First Aid Kit was demonstrated by Nancy Fisher and Karen Taylor. We decided to have Miss Hunt visit us on our sixth meeting. The rest of the meeting was spent on,our crafts. Sharon Sillib closed the meeting with the reading of the creed. We opened with the pledge. Sandra Wise, led, us in two exercises. Roll Call was "An Otiginal Safety Slogan". The minutes of last meeting were read by Marilypne Wise. We decided to have° a traffic safety officer come to our next meeting, on November 16. We are to report which night suits us to have a bowling party. A discussion on Safety in the Home, Sitting Safely, Safety Away from Horne, and Continuing plans for Achievement Day followed. We then had a display of the Crafts of members. The Group Work consisted of the completion of the "Check List for Safety in Your Home". oat successful A very se*ft Youth Seminar was held en November 1 from ° 2-8 p.m. in 'the Kingsbridge school auditorium. Approximately 75 teenagers were • in ' attendance, from Wingham, Goderich and Kingsbridge area. Commencing with registration at 2 p.m., several topics suets as: mix4d marriages, abPrtiolas, separate and public aehoo , Catholic churches versus •fir, and what we like in a good family, friend, teacher, religion and community, were diramei with Clare Wilhelm from Kitchener as the seminar leader. Where„ were three priests present to give their views and opinions .on these topics. They were Father Hughes from Stratford, Father 1),6600ney, Wingham, Father Cameo, Kingsbridge. ' At 5:30 a folk mass was celebrated by Father Cassino and Father Hughes gave the sermon. After the mass, it buffet style supper was served and a soul hour followed during which a film was shown. St. George's ACW to hold annual meeting Nov.. The October meeting, of St. George's A. C. W. was called to order by the President, Mrs. C. F. Sale.* • • An opening hymn was sung and the secretary and treasurer's reports were read and approved. Correspondence was read by Mrs. Mildred Simpson. ' Mrs. Sale announced that the Annual meeting would be held on November 17 and a new slate of officers would be presented by the nominating committee, composed of chairmay Grace Patterson, and Marg. Stewart and Sheila' Sully. • Church calendars are available and Mrs. V. White is taking orders for the "Living Message” at 51.50 per year. Help was requested from. the choir president to check chair 17 gowns for laundering arid upkeep, and to dress junior meinbers before services. Mrs. Lina Cochrane volunteered for this duty. l o Members were reminded of the fowl supper November;12' at which two sittings of 150 will be served. Acting upon motions from the floor, money .yeas allotted to St. Monica's House for Unwed Mothers in Waterloo and to the Mural Restoratign Fund of St, George's C;iurch, as well as an extra cheque to the Diocesan treasurer to be used as needed for mission work. Work groups were held following the business and a tasty lunch was served. • • The weekly dance Was held in the auditorium Monday October 26, with Miss Della Peart at the piano and Mrs. Mary Taylor on the mouth organ. Miller Adams, Norman Speirs and John Leeming .played violins 'with Jerry Collins on minlriTg,„and John Newcombe calling off. Waltzes seemed to be the favourite dance with a couple of square dances, the heel and toe Thka and two steps mixed in. ey also had the ones who could not participate. A most ,,enjoyable time was lied by all Kingsbridge Mrs.' Joe Van Osch was hostess to a Tupperware party at. her home last Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Martin and ,Minfan.t . son of Hamilton visited with their relatives over the weekend.• Joe Austin visited relatives in Talento over the weekend. Jirn Sennett was home on leave from his . boat on the weekend. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Clem Steffler on the arrival of a son at the Alexandra Hospital, Goderich • last, - Wednesday. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. ' )Ron' Durnin (Audrey Austin) on the arrival of a baby girl at the Goderich Hospital last Friday. Frank Doherty was admitted. to the Goderich Hospital during the week after injuring his back at work. Mr. and Mrs. John Sheardown of London were , weekend visitors with Mr. and WIr. Ormond Hefferman. The regular Family Night program held each Thursday evening ' in the, auditorium consisted of Mary Lee James M.C. and Song„ Bader, Gordon Rumbey guitar and ,mouth organ, Don Duppel guitar with Mrs. James leading a very lively sing song. Mrs. Harrison and Mrs. Lindsay, Goderich sang several numbers accompanied by Marlene Forbes, Clinton, ,at the piano. A Hallowe'en party was held on Friday afternoon with several residents and staff in costume, Bonnie Stewart and Lynnda Collins were in charge of the programQ The residents were treated to apples and Bandy following the programme.
