Wash and " dryone dozen
apples. Insert wooden skewers.

Hallowe'en. trea'
Combine:
3 cups granulated sugar
V4 tsp. cream of tarter
2/3 cup water
1 tsp. lemon juice or vinegar
15 whole cloves '
Use a heavy - saucepan to
prevent burning. Place on the
heat and stir gently until the
sugar is dissolved. Then ada 2
tsp. red food coloring. -
Boil hard, without stirring,
until' the `candy' has reached the,
hard --crack stage. Remove from
heat and take out the cloves. Dip
the apples in the `candy.' Set
app on a buttered cookie
sheet making sure the apples are
not touching. Allow to cool and
dry.
' To prevent the apples from•
becoming messy in a trick or
treat bag, wrap the apples in
clear plastic wrap,. and secure
with a twister.
BUTTERSCOTCH POPCORN
Pop -enough popcorn to makg .
two quarts of popped corn (it
should take about 1/2 cup raw
popcorn). Place it in a large
clean dishpan or similar bowl.

1-1/3 cup sugar^
pinch cream of tarter
5 tablespoons plus one teaspoon
*boiling water (measure water .
exactly)
2 tsp. butter
1/3 tsp. baking -soda
Boil together for five minutes
the first three ingredients. Do .
not stir. The instant this turns a
gold color remove from the heat
at once — stir in baking soda and
butter. Pour over hot popcorn
immediately. Toss with two
forks until the popcorn is
completely coated. -•
As soon as the butterscotch
popcorn can be handled, lift out•
onto sheets of wax paper to
cool, separating the kernels. -'-
Package in lear plastic wrap
and close with a twister. For an
added touch, you may want to
tie ,the bag - with ,a piece of
orange or. black ribbon in honor
of Hallowe'en.
QUICK CRUNCH CANDY
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 tsp, ,vanilla
dash salt
4 tablespoons wate •
Cook - over medium heat
stirring constantly until very
brittle when tested ' in cold
water. Pour - immediately
without stirring on a cookie
sheet so candy will spread to
about t-incil. Break three small
milk chocolate bars over- top;
when chocolate is .soft, spread
evenly . and cover . with- finely
chopped nuts. When cold, `drop'
pan and the candy will split in
irregular pieces.
Package in. little Hallowe'en
treat bags or wrap in plear plastic
and secure with a twister. ,

baking sheet. and bake

cooked, cut in half lengthwise,
scoop out' potato centre and
mash. Mix mashed potatd with 1
cup 'shredded importedHolland
Edam, butter, sour cream and
seasonings.. Place filling back in
shells, sprinkle with remaining.
. shredded cheese. Return . -to
preheated 350 degree F. oven
for about 20_ minutes until
cheese melts and filling. heats
through. Makes 4 servings..

CHOCOLATE DATE COOKIES
(tried and proven)
2 squares baking chocolate
1 .cup butter or margarine
1 clip light brown sugar
1 egg
1 cup diced dates
1! , cups pastry flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1.13 cup milk
' .1 cup-brokest-walnuts
Melt chocolate and siiiortening over h' t water. Combine
sugar and egg,beating.well. Add sifted dry ingredients and
milk alternately. Add chocolate; -shortening, nuts and dates.
Blend thoroughly together. Drop by teaspoon on greased
baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool and
ice with favorite frosting. Yield — four dozen cookies.
