Our' Pack . started the new
Irl on ,,ptember lith with
? exlent turnout of "old".
Rro*nies as wc11 as a few new
ones. Our Tawny Owls puidn't-
e with us for the first meeting
thottgb and so we didili't actually
get into full swing until the next
week:
September 18th and 25th saw
us happily back into. routine. It
was a.pleasure to see that we all

fancy Fisher read the minutes
)f the last meeting.
The leaders discussed "How
:o Make Leisure a Pleasure".
Each girl brought a book that
:hey had read and outlined the
tory to the fellow members. -
Ka1hy and , Karen Taylor
demonstrated the. art of
huckweaving. Each , girl then
made a sample for her record
book.
The remaining part --of 'the -
meeting was spent on the
huckweaving..'
Nancy Fisher closed the
meeting with the _creed.
p o
We got the business of,
collecting our yearly census fees
.out of the way and spent the.
rest of our time enjoying out`
favorite songs anddgames. .,
In Pow. Wow (our . talking
lime) we heard about some
bardges our girls -had earned
during the summer,
Anne . McDonald ":passed both
her Athlete and her
Hou=sekeeper; Robin Ormandy
finished- up her Swimmer,
Pathfinder_aid Weaver; Susan
Goodwin and, Lynda McIntyre
both completed their Golden
Hand work; and Susan Goodwin
certainly earned her Gardiner
badge ! !
Susan deserves a lot 'of praise
for her garden. Mrs. Brander
(our tester) and I had the
pleasure of seeing it and' we
came home very impressed.
There were cucumbers,`'
tomatoes, onions, pumpkins,
andyellow beans to start ;kith ,
and , during • the sun mer -her
garden not only kept the family
supplied but friends 'as well!
While we were looking at the
garden Susan did a bit ,of.
transplanting for us and there's
_ no- doubt about it _— -shereally}
'knows what she is doing!
Last week.we enjoyed a visit
from Kathleen McCreath, a
Guide, who told us some very
interesting; • things about
Australia and then taught us a
game that Australian Brownies
enjoy. We all learned a lot of
ways in which our' country
differs from theirs!
Y ,
We +dosed Sur meeting by
- learning ar new Brownie song and
saying a little '.Swedish Prayer
before Taps.
NOTICE
This part is sort of a "Notice
to all Guides, Brownies , and
Parents". In ,the near future we'
hope to liarrange a Uniform
Exchange in Goderk h so tha4
everyone needing a uniform will
get one and we'll raise a little
money for our Camp .Fund as.
well. It will be run in a similar
way to the school skate
exchange so please hunt up any
spare uniforms or, parts 'of
uniforms and have them ready.
The girls who are waiting
patiently fol news of the Fly -Up
' to Guides — it won't be much
longer now. In fact,., after 'a
Guider meeting at which ,the
details will be ironed out we'll
do our best to make it a happy
occasion.
GUIDES
The Guides in Goderich . were
really busy all summer from' the
looks of the following list of
badges that were earned.
Karen Harris and Sally'
Stringer both finished 'their
Camper Badge; .,Sandra- Freeman,
Pioneer, Outdoor Cook," Child
Care, Citizenship; • Susan
Freeman, Toymaker, Woodman,

her All Round Cord as well,
GUIDE CAMP
Workon the Guide Camp at

sometime we hope to have a
steel, utility shed erected to•store
the tents in.. When it's up all the
equipme' t can be brought from
the Seaforth camp and neatly
stored sway. There are plans for
a Pan -Abode shelter '(18' x 16')

Consumer Affairs Minister
Ron Basford says he would like
to see more generic drugs rather
than brand-name drugs
prescribed as a way of keeping
prices down, according to Drug
Merchandising- business
publication.
It is a phony argument that
the only safe drugs, are those
sold under ' brand rather, than
generic names, Basford says.
' There is evidence that efforts are
being made to spoil a
government cost-cutting_
program, ;says an Ottawa report,
and if efforts to stimulate
competition in the international
pharmaceutical industry don't •
work, the government is said to
be ready to look for other
methods of lowering costs.
Basford says surveys have
shown Canadians pay
inordinately high prescription
prices for drugs and he has
announced that a new package
labeling act will be introduced `
Parliament this fall.
