The reasons we keep these• images vary. Some are records of places we have been. ' Others are records of people to show .how they were. Others yet are records of scenes that stir in us some , pleasing emotion or have other pleading effectsprt°us. To be able to °record we have. first to be able to see. And • -seeing is dot just looking toward an , object with' our 'eyes open. We ,have to see in a way that °presents 'the object in its best light. That reproduces the image in us to the best" effect. Anyone An see...They merely have to be told — or shown — how. . Photography is a mechanical process ' also. By using the mechanics of 'a relatively simple machine, we record 'these images we wish to keep. The operation of most amateur cameras is complete simplicity; you point the .camera, press a button and the job is done: Or is it? Photography that, brings the • best results that our equipment is capable"' of, whether that equipment be of the simplest or most complex nature, is a matter of knowledge of the 'capabilities` of that equipment. In most `instances, people overrate ' the equipment they: have. They try to take 'photographs under impossible conditions; they take ho o s,,at«;the iwron xJaime . firorri the wrong-place;'theq the wrong things at the wrong timeand end up with a disappointment. Too, people often miss. photographs' because they didn't know the equipment . they had was capable of doing the job. They. owned simple equipment, perhaps, and felt"the job called for a $1,000 outfit. More disappointments. - Hopefully,- this, fali.-I-shall be - teaching a course in what . I .prefer to call. Hopefully, during that course I will be able to, point out some of the problems and mistakes s *photographers meet up with and show ways of overcoming them.' The course will be designed with' one main point in mind and that's the improvement of photographs_. that you get from your camera. No fancy equipment will be needed; or the fanciest can be. used. No,. complicated formuli will be considered and the practical aspect of the course will be .our main aims. •,+:.: •„" .alt' r ii The . course ,will be for ,all people who use a camera in the ,, hope that many photographs that now ,don't makeit, will' make it.
