Cures forced hiccups
DEAR ANN LANDERS:
Have ,you ever her., Of a person
giving himself hiccups? I ask for
the following reason. The fellow
1 am*going with gets the hiccups
at the most inopportune times -
and When he hies in church, or
in the Movies, or during a

I:m althost positive he brings on
the hiccups to attract attention

prove ni point, I've tried to give-

ast night he was making a
real spectacle of himself during a
, play. I told him if he hicced one •,

he didn't -have to call me again.
That was the end of his hiccups.
When 1 later asked how come he
\% as cured so fast, he said, You"

please. - MERGATROID •
DEAR MERG: It is possible

Dear Hack: I fail to see why

you consider your relative selfish
merely because she wishes t

that every phone owner should
be ready, willing and able' to
respond to calls around the
clock is-presuMptuous indeed.
Phones should not be left off
the hook, however. Illinois Bell
tells me that widespread, use of
this Practice can louse up the
entire system. 'For, frequent
nappers they recommend a
ringdt cut-off which can be
installed for- a modest charge.
The caller gets a ring signal but
the napper hears not Mg.
Another solution, is to 114 II a
jack -type phone which can be
plugged out when one doesn't
wish to be disturbed. •
