held it's 4th regular meeting at

John Clark gave official placing
of the class. Rosemary Eedy
then read the minutes of the last
meeting. They then went outside
to discuss a ball game at Nile. We

The first playoff game was

The winning teams of this

weekend tournament has been

August 15 saw the beginning -
of a new men's pairs
tournament, to be held annually
at the Goderich greens. The new
contest is known as the "C.T,C,
Bluewater Area Tournament"
and has been sponsored by the
Wingham, Seaforth, Exeter and
Goderich Canadian Tire
Corporation Stores.
Entries were received from
London, Seaforth,, Clinton;
. Wingham and Lucknow, with
the Goderich Club matching the
invading rinks man for man. This
new contest involves . the
'defending of a new trophy, plus.
• the capturi-rg and sharing of six
unique prizes, consisting of : a
total value of $150 worth of'
C.T.C. cash bonus certificates.
An outstanding three gaine
display of fine bowling gave the
G oderich rink of Walt
Westbrook and Earl Allison first.:.
possession of the new trophy,
plus' the top prize bundle of $50
woith of certificates..
The top six teams` were as
follows, with the skips named
last: 'Goderich, Earl Allison and
Walter Westbrook; -Clinton, Gord
Rathwell and Dave Colclough;
Seaforth, Art Finlayson and
Fred Tilley; Goderich, George
Allison and Lee Ryan; Goderich,
Pete Bisset. arid Lome Webb;
Goderich, Lorne Matthews and
.Mel Brady.
-The .consolation prize of two-;c`Y
• books entitled, "How to Become
a Champion Bowler" went to
one of Goderich's new member t,
rinks, Fred Westerby and Joe

, Mr. and Mrs. Martin
Straughan and family, Goderich,
became involved in a distressing
situation Sunday while attending
the Fuller family' picnic at
Kitchener's Holiday Beach. ,
The family was picnicing a
few feet • from the water's edge
when a canoe carrying four men
from Newfoundland. overturned
about 30' off shore, throwing all
the occupants into the water.
One of the boaters clung to
the craft. Jim. Straughan, 15,
managed fa bring a second man
to shore with the aid of a surf
board. The remaining two men
were drowned before assistance
could reach them.
Mr. Straughan and „,other
members of the Fuller family
dived to re (over the bodies. It
was Mr. Straughan who managed
to bring'' the bodies of the two
victims to the surface. •
