,r With Shirley. J. Kellet,
Woman to Woman
This Is Saturday, Normally
I.'nt not at my typewriter
Saturday but I've had a bout
With. this summer flu bug so I'm
using Saturday ` to catch, up on
my work.
Until I came down with the
r'.--- flu,'. I.rasn't aware that there,
was any of it in town. I was son
to discover that many, many
people have been struck with the
complaint which includes
everything from sick stomach to
headaches to shivers to
back -door -trots. All in all, • it is
the usual miserable type of flu
that comes by every once in a
while.
While I was at home, I had a
telephone call from one lady
who, after learning I had the flu,
told me not to eat or drink any
dairy products. She said her
doctor had advised • her to stay
away -from these foods until she
was feeling better.
That' little . bit of information
may help some more of you who
will succumb to the bug in the
-next few days.

-- .It -became -even more essential
.that Iget some of mywork do
w done
Saturday since I will be in the
Hub of Huron County from
° August 10 to 14. •
Clinton News -Record editor
Keith Roulston is away on
vacation so I'm going over there
to sit in for him. •'
It will be a little bit like a
• holiday' for me since Clinton is
my old hometown. I may get an
opportunity to renew some old
acquaintances.
In the meantime4 Goderich
editor Ron Price will be holding
the fort here for one
week:..doing extra duty in the
' women's department.

With September and October,
the big wedding months
upcoming, .I thought it might be
l dse to remind brides-to-be of
• our policy regarding wedding
stories and pictures.
There is ABSOLUTELY NO
CHARGE for wedding stories
and pictures published in the.
Goderich. Signal -Star. However,"
we do request that information
be forwarded to .us as soon after
the wedding as possible. We
cannot guarantee that a wedding
story which is more than• one
month old will be 'published,
In • order( to avoid any.
disappointments, it is most wise
for the bride and. groom to make
.arrangements for the newspaper
• Story well in advance of the
On the day of the wedding,
give• the completed wedding
forms to the -photographer and
instruct him to give it to the
newspaper with the picture.
Then, walk down the aisle and
enjoy your day...and your
honeymoon and your new life
together.

Things have been rather at a
standstill around town as far as
the women's department of this
newspaper is concerned.
Everyone is on vacation and
enjoying it. That's the way it
should be.
I've had some inquiries about
the Youth Centre but I haven't
been over there for a while to
take -notice Of how things are
going.
There have been reports of
youths drinking :in that part of
town and naturally, the . Youth
Centre is singled - out as the
source of the trouble.
I'm • quite certain there have
—been youngsters at the Youth''
Centre from, time to time who
have been drinking..But.,you. can.
rest assured they are not
drinking within the buildin
under the watchful eye of the
chaperones on duty there all the
time.
• You -know, some youngsters
like • to experiment with- things
like alcohol...and then they like
to show off. It seems that it is
considered 'big tin.ie' to be
observed by the crowd in an
intoxicated ` condition. What
better spat to head for than the
Youth Centre where' just
everybody is assembledT
But let's not blame the Youth
Centre for the problem. And
let's not get excited because our
youngsters may be exposed to
this kind of scene. I'm afraid the
scene is the same anywhere that
all kinds of young people"
congregate ' - ,or worse where
there is no supervision -at all
It is nearly impossible tpese
days to shield' our children from
the not -so -nice attributes of
living. It seers that we can only
teach them as best we can while
they are growing up, let them
know that we care about them
and trust them,. then let loose
the apron strings — a little at a
time.
I 'know ` it • "isn't always the
easiest thing in the .world to do.
I'rn a parent too, and 'I have
misgivings. if anyone else has a
better solution, this column is
open to your suggestions.,

And what do you think about
the new _ midi -length ,this fall
girls?
Frankly, I will be sorry to see
hemlines- dip. I didn't think I'd
ever write a statement like that
but it is -44-tie. I enjoy the
freedom of the short skirts and I
will be -reluctant tp see them go
down.
When I say short . skirts, I
don't mean the micro -minis
which aren't -much. Ionger than a
blouse. I'm talking about the
-inch or ,two -above -the "-knee
which is so comfortable to wear.
My daughter- was looking at
our wedding pictures a few
months ago and giggling at the
length of my skirt. Have you
ever been instantly angry and
now quite known why? t.
When I told her that the way
styles go, it wouldn't be . long,
before• that length was popular
again, she laughed and assured
me she'd never wear such an
ugly outfit.
Guess what? I don't even have
to tell you that she's noting the
midi dresses with - ;a bit of
excitement these,days.
I'll wager that when school
opens again and it -gets into
,October, we will see. quite a few
midi dresses on the street and in
the area — and I'll also wager
°that'' we'll learn to like them no
matter what we think now.

wedding, tat you want a

newspaper. Many photograpTiers
are very co-operative and • will
make every attempt to have the
picture done the week' after the
wedding, or at the very latest,
two weeks following the

Secondly, the bride should

Sometimes a newlywed

up a new hpme that they forget
their weddingstoryuntil it is old
