HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1970-06-11, Page 5• * With a rev people screaming, , to close the trailer park on West Street and turn it back to a park again, I just hope they make use of it now. As in any park there are always people who °abuse their privileges and spoil it for others -or, as in ' this ease -everyone. People who visited our nice town for their two or three week vacation and those who found it wonderful ,for just a few days stopover, will. _certainly miss being able to use this park. • I do know that the folks who • came especially for Art Mart • week will be disappointed' as they praised this town to the sky -mainly for the fact that we had such a beautiful spot right in town where they could park • their nice little trailer for a week *(and more) 'and really enjoy our town. 'Oh, I• know, we shouldn't have a "Trailer -ark" in town. It just isn't done! But since • we had one in such a beautiful spot- where it was out of sight -- more or less and a place -that the townspeople had grown away from - oh it had been well used many, many years ago but in the last twenty years things have changed in G9derich. '4 Those who had enjoyed walldng to' the park, now have cars and visited parks in spots all over the Dominion - or had grown away from the 'park' era cOmpletely. Using a park is done by the . trery young and very- old - mostly. The in-betweeners might -but there -are so many -other places to go they just grew away from it. The people who really enjoyed that park also had a ..canoe,_or_ small call boat, _they didn't have a heavy motor -boat • •requiring .a trailer of its own or a large motor -boat, which ,took you away from parks entirely. Also the folks who really used that park - are past the parking (sparking) age and couldn't care less what happened 'to it. Our younger generation ° - (like ' like to drive' to the spots' along 'the lake - just to look at the beauty of it, but seldom ever • get out of, the car. / The much younger generation have also grown away from playing in the park. They want cement ' for mbst of. their activities so they are not using the 'park either. Now; when you • 1E. you might, but in this day and age the romances don't bloom in the park - they have to have booming, crashing noises to help their romancing along. PLAN TO ATTEND 0 TH E DESSERT. Oh. • So'h seeln$ that outside of the occasional visit our park, on West Street has not been Used byl the. townspeople for year. There are still the old sentimentalists who have their yearly re -union or picnic down there - but they're very few and there swould have been big gaps in the use of that park if it hadn't been for, the "visitors". So I atm, hoping that people will turn '1 out for the band concerts which are planned for the. Sunday nights in the West Street Park. The "Town Band". which is really making a. name for itself -again -(the younger generation again) will hold concerts there and visiting bands will be coming during the suminer.
