The Goderich Signal-Star, 1970-05-14, Page 12A QOTE IOH°$K iNAPSTA tt, THU4SDAY, MAY 14,, 1970 . Tonight is another meeting of persons interested in the ' establishment ,of a Homemaker Service in, Goderich. I understand • the committee met last Thursday "' ° evening, but ' with a small and rather 'disappointing attendance. • The meeting tonight is, at 8 p.m. in the nurses"room in the Court Houk. ' There are indicatiohs that r the- group is getting' closer to the time when there WILL BE a bonafide _Homemaker Service in Goderich, for residents to rely upon when there is a need. . ., May I: be one of the first to congratulate the hard workers on this comittee for their interest in co imunity 'affairs. Home er Service in my view, Is -pr of the most tremendous assets any community can boast. Not only does it make life a good deal more livable for the folks who are already burdened with financial and• perhaps emotional "hang-ups", it provides an air of extra security for everyone. Sq.uare.._ I suppose the green paint.was fine in an age where' colors were not all that important, but today, when colors are wild and life is zesty, I believe red. is a more appropriate hue for the -benches in the park. Would you believe that we discussed everything from election campaigns to fashions? The family we visited had never been to Canada even though they are just a few miles from the border. It seemed incredible to us, but then 1 suppose there are ,many' Canadians in Sarnia, Windsor and Niagara Falls, for instance, who have just not had the inclination or the 'opportunity to, travel into the U.S.A. If the ,kids get as much out of this exchange as we. did, it will be a worthwhile venture. * I had a chat this morning with a young man (Goderich born and bred, incidentally) who. has left • his hometown but is home for. the • summer and -very interested in the -voult rogram hers, :.coup -167 interesting comments which I would like to pass along for what they are worth. First of all; -he said -the -citizens .of Goderich would be m in a mistake to hand the kids a beautiful building in which to have a drop-in centre or a youth centre. He said the kids would much, prefer an old barn or some other equally unconventional - type dwelling, which they could take over and decorate to suit their whims. I quite agree. As my caller said, if adults were ' doing the - decorating 'they would probaIaly paint the walls pale blue when the kids want orange and purple and red and any other ghastly color you can name; I recalled one youngster' in town who . told me that `kids v That's quite an achievement. „ So, see you next Thursday° evening! * * .. 1 want to impress on you again that EVERYONE is invited. to use the Octogenarian Club column to announce the birthday • of someone who is 8Q years of age or older. But I also know 'that most people consider dandelions to be one of the lesser of the bothersome weeds because tijeir season is short and for the most part, when they are through flowering and seeding, dandelions .are not too noticeable. In 'fact, I know people who, wouldn't destroy dandelions at all because they would be doing themselves out of some tasty saladsin, the early spring!
