RUSSELL ° ST. GEORGE'S ANGLICAN CHURCJJf- um hungry'` Excitement is beginning to build up in: Goderich for the Oxfam Walk on.May 23rd. Children and adults are trying 49 complete their sponsor books and build up their quota. T suppose most' of us have . already been • approached, but there, may 'be some who haven't been. If =^' you want tO sponsor someone for Oxfam you ,can call my home: three of my children are going to walk and want to have as large a sponsorship as they can get! Besides being a fun outing with a lot of personal involvement, the Oxfam walk gives everyone a chance to do something for the hungry people of the world. Amongst„the many posters which we see these days regarding hunger relief, I was particularly impressed with the wording on one in the Oxfam News. It l:tegins by quoting' the words from one of Jesus' parables in St. Matthew 25: "Lord, when did we see you hungry? Then it continues: I was hungry and you circled the moon.' I was hungry and you told me to wait. I Was hungry and you set up a commission. I ,:was hungry and . you talked about bootstraps. I was hungry and you told me I shouldn't be. L. Jwa ,. hafgry. and you .,had napalm -bills to pay. I was hungry and you said "Machines do that kind of . work now.” Is was Thungry and. you said, "The poor are always with us.'I' I was hungry and you said, "Law and order •comes"first,' "I was, hungry and •you blamed it on the Communists. I was hungry and you said, "So were my ancestors." " I was hungry and you said, "We don't hire over 35" I ' was: hungry and you said, "God helps those " . I was hungry and you said, "Sorry, try again tomorrow." The conclusion;Vin large'print, is AM HUNGRY. That is the Message: a 1pt of people are hungry. Jesus said, "Inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me." Oxfam of Canada is one of several agencies which 'arehelping to relieve poverty conditions throughout the world by gifts, education, medicines and developing self-help. Remember these words from Holy Scripture: " Do not forget to do good and to help one another, for these are the sacrifices that please God." iia _:Bat -81E BY CORNELIUS R. STAIN PRES. The meaning of this famous passage of Scripture is clear, and its.truth has been demonstrated a thousand times, over. God is constantly searching, as it were, for men whom 'He can -bless and use to fulfill His pur-- .poses, but for whom, .and through whom` does He accomplish His ends? He• does not need the world's. great men, • for He says in Zach. '4:6: "Not by might,,nor by power, but by My .Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts." He does not need the world's great thinkers, for our Lord, while on earth, prayed: "Thou hast hid these things from .the wise and prudent; and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, .Pallier, for to it seemed good Thy: sight (Matt. 11:25,26). Indeed, St. Paul declares, in I Cor: 3:19.: ''The wisdom of this world is foolishness with''"God." No, it is not to the world's great -ones that God bestows His bless- ing and power; it is rather to. the• humblest believer whose heart is rightmwith Him. Thus it is that St. Paul wrote by divine inspiration to those in ancient • Corinth who had trusted Christ as their Savior: • "Ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many . mighty, not many noble, are called: But Pod hath chosen the foolish things of the world,to •confound the wise; and God ath chosen the Weak things of the world to confound 'the thins which are mighty; and base things ,of the world, and 'things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to. bring, to naught things that are: That no flesh should •boast in His presence" (I Cor. 1:26-29), To those' of us who believe that God created the Universe from naught; aft this is perfectly con- sistent and it gives us confidence that He can bless and use even us.
