While all the girls worked very hard, we realize that it took public support to make our campaign so successful. :}: : FIRST BROWNIE PACK Our Pack always opens with a. game so that 'late comers. do not miss the Ceremonial part of the program. During the "Brownie Ring" due$ were "hopped" in—good for learning balance. Work periods _ saw two Brownies. completing the last two items for a Golden Hand, two others were cooks making ' a delicious dessert to take home., Other ' Irownies were directing "Packie" (a Ranger helper) and "Tawny" (one of the Leaders) to different points up town with compass directions. Cookie Day plans , were finalized during Pow Wow, and all went well on "The Day". Many thanks to the wonderful residents' without whose help we couldn't succeed. Brownie Prayers finished our meeting. SECOND BROWNIE PACK Three kind Mothers, Mrs. MacDonald, Mrs. Suchard, and Mrs. Nelson helped the 2nd Pack - on Friday afternoon when they ,user �.,thsi regular...tneeting.-,time ' --tci..,.,�a�...ad.t�atld--•selL..�t�eit_.C.irl' Guide Cooki!,es. These mothers each drove a car full of happy Brownies to a, designated street,•gave'out safety precautions .about' crossing streets, encouragement, and boxes of cookies tov sell, and every so often counted noses, and checked the money for her' "team". - The eager little girls found the strong wind that afternoon something, less than a help. In fact the picture that cones to mind is of0.many small girls, coat tails flapping, holding f on to crurnpled'•prown tams with one hand and, some cookie boxes with the other while trying to keep their balance as they were blown from house to house. In spite of the wind, the day was .(a definite success and our sincere thanks to all the kind peoprle, who' helped us in any Mrs. Margaret Jean Craig (right) was named Girt of the'Yeary members of the Beta Sigma Phi" Sorority. (staff°photo) '' " Rebekahs report • A very" successful dessert card party and bake sale -was, held by Goderich Rebekah, .Lodge 'No., 89 in the lodge rooms on Wednesday afternoon, April 29 at1.30p.m. Guests were welcomed 'b` on success Noble Grand Mrs. iEdith Craig, and Vice Grand Mrs.' Della McGee. The room was .beautifully decorated for the occasion with colorful spring flowers.' All tables were filled. • ~ Those 'winning prizes were: bridge, Mrs. Harry Tichborne; "500", Mrs. Nelson Harnack; euchre, Mrs. Esther Kendall of Clinton.` Mrs. ' Frank Bowra convened the desserts• and cards, while Mrs. Joe Thompson was -convener of the bake table. way.. THIRD BROWNIE PACT: The Annual saleof Girl Guide Cookies was started in Goderich by the Third Brownies during their usual meeting time on Monday afternoon (April 27th). The weather was lust perfect and Brownies the girls enjoyed every minute of their "Door-to-door Brownie Meeting" ' • F9URTH BROWNIES `I'he Pack enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Kloss and Miss Clara Bedard this week. Mrs. Kloss helped seven girls with their knitting and Clara, worked with.thegroup who were cleaning and polishing shoes. The shoes must be well polished and the Brownies must see to it that they clean up after themselves when the task is completed., This is Golden Bar work and the knitting is for the Golden Hand. When work periods were over the Brownies enjoyed a game of volleyball. This Pack is looking forward to' a special treat , in the near future and we'll tali you about that next week. • SECOND GIIIQE. COMPANY Well, Spring is in the air and Guides 'are talking about hikes and camp. - This year 2nd Company have one Guide who wishes to try for her Pioneer's Badge and' four, for - Camper's Badges. Our Girls working on horse nurse are still hard at it. Just three more weeks to go then the test, and we wily be rooting for the six girls. Bed rolls are comilhg along very -moll- and first aid kits have been assembled and passed by Lynn Moffett, Colleen Spence, Barbie Shelton, Jean Wraith, Dale_ .-..Oake, , Laura -Morrison, Teresa Streete—and_.Ben,da ._Lougheed. Now we -need to go on a hike and take the kit$. The girls' have five of . the eight knots ready to be tested. These are reef, sheepshank, clove hitch, bowline, packer's knot: Three more to go and we will be able to"tie them all. The girls working on sewing garments have made good-• progress and all have completed their garment by this week. Kathleen McCreath and Karen. Harris attended Council Meeting with Lieutenant Spence. This. is part of the requirements for a Citizenship Badge. •They found it very interesting to see how these men cope with major problems- as well as minor ones that arise in the town. Our thanks to 'them for allowing us to attend. Next week we shall continue `' our' •plans and hope to keep • passing our tests. THIRD 'GUIDE COMPANY April 28th, at' Knox Presbyterian Church . the 3rd Company had a very successful Pot Luck Supper. On behalf of all the Guides in the Company Sally Stringer and Debbie Johnston enjoyed the honour of giving their Leaders_. each ,a beautiful corsage 'of red lroses-,--°and all the girls received the thanks from these happy ladies. �, Between courses of a lovely meal everyone joined in a sing song led . by Mrs. Jim Coulter at the piano. Mrs. Coulter has been helping the girls learn songs from the training held in Orangeville a few weeks ago and at the end of the evening the guides entertained their guests with a campfire, some skits, and, their 'new songs. Kingsbridge Giri ' Guides Shiela Sinnett and Judy Tigert of the Orioles were in charge of the April 30 meeting, of first Kingsbridge Guide Company. Debbie Maize opened the meeting'with prayer. Capt. ,Tigert and Lt. McLennon- took inspection. A Kinis game was played with the Kingfishers and Scarlet Tanagers. tied for first. place,. Lt. McLennon outlined the items •of food to be brought to the Mother and Daughter Banquet to be held May 21, Kingfishers were in charge of campfire. - ` To bring the meeting to a close Debbie Maize and Margaret Frayne led in Prayer followed by Taps. We welcome Cathy Simpson back, to Guides after living in Goderich for the winter. We also missed Lt.: Sinnett . at our meeting.
