In the hustle and bustle of
toddy's world it is a good thing
/to separate ourselves from the•
concourse of mankind fora little
time. This was the habit . of
Christ, in His earthly Ministry.
Frons , time to time He went
aside and 'communed with His- •

heavenly- -.Pather . fit-
refreshment, .new strength and
:reaffirmed. His `vocation to man.
Even prior to,.., the horrors of
Golgotha .He , went apart into
Gethsemane to seek again the
ministration of God. He was able
to say, - "Not ° My will but Thine
be done." This• is the kind of
experience that can renew us, in
life's pathway. We are confirmed'
in our pilgrimage.
Just a few days ago the writer
was able topartake of this type
of reinvigoration at Five Oaks at
Paris. The motive for attending ,
was . extremely selfish. It had
nothing to do with the state of
- the Church in the 1970's,
nothing to do with methodology
or techiuques, nothing to - do
with- a ,.new program -in -a- in ---a- -new....
decade: absolutely not, the
motive was absolutely,
unalterably selfish,. self-centred,
egotistical. Focus was upon the
man. ME!!! This is where the
supreme worry lay -not in the
institution, but -in -the person: Had
the road become wearying? Was •
the vision dilutin''Were people
really so -all -fired important?
What was/is the state of one's'"•
faith in this different age?. Was
God calling us to one thing and
Were we doing 'another? An
answer had to be found and the
Retreat seemed to present itself
as a logical arena of discovery:
