presented ' to Pamela Lamb and
Sheila Vance got a , two year
• service star, Then we gave them
• a Grand Howl. Later on some
girls did semaphore and two
other girls cooked.- Thfs •was
followed by our Pow Wow
which_ was a discussion of
Cookie Day.

turns going into the center to
explain the interesting items
they have brought.
. This, week our Pow Wow was
twice as long as usual because
last week tlJiere just wasn't any
time left after everyone 'had
been tested "for their athlete
badges. We saw quite . a, bit of
"test work" and talked' a bit
about our plans for ,a special
"ceremony in the very near
future.

• to ite short, however the girls
seemed to bustle along at double
normal speed as if to make up
for it and so everyone in the
Golden Hand group finished
planting beans (as well as
cleaning up) and the rest of the
Pack completed the l3alancing
section , of their Golden Bar
work: before it was time to sing
`Daps dismiss.
BROWNIES
Pack 3. This week the
Brownies of the Third . Pack
enjoyed• a real change of pace by
going on a scavenger . hunt.
Credit for success of this hunt,
must really "go to the many, kind
ladies ' who live in the area
_around Knox Presbyterian
Church who kindly gave the
Brownies at their doors some
items on the scavenger hunt list.
Brown Owll Tawny Owl,
(Leaders) and all the Brownies
of this Pack would like to say.
"Thank You"'to everyone who
helped make the hunt so much
fun.
BROWNIES
_ . Pack 2.- Our meeting was a
relaxed one this week. As usual
our Opening Ceremonies were '
followed by Pow Wow. This is a
talking and planning time and
everyone sits in a circle while

Pack '4. Some W. of , our
Brownies were busy polishing
shoes (and tidying uery well
afterward) as .well as sewing the
two different types •of buttons,
oh articles,,,, clothing - to -take,'
two inore steps toward receiving
their Golden Bar.
Brownies who are already
wearing their Golden Bar were,
very busy learning to knit., These
girls must learn to cast stitches
on, knit, and then cast off as
well as make an afghan square all
by themselves before they are
finished with this requirement
toward their highest award—the
Golden Hand.

Most of the meeting this
week was spent arranging details
: for their Pot Luck Supper being
held April ° 28 at ° Knox
'Presbyterian Church.
The Guides have invited their

up the meeting with some songs.

Guide news since their work
requirerhents are more difficult
and detailed and therefore take
,M longer to complete then projects
at the Brownie level and weekly
progress reports,, might seem
repetitious to a casual reader.

On Saturday, April 25 two
carloads of ladies ,from . the
Huron Division attended a
•Public. Relations. Workshop held
in Owen Sound. .
The training was filled' tos the
brim with -a great deal of
information presented in many
interesting ways and was
obviously the result of much
thought -and effort. 9
The ladies from Owen Sound

began and ended very pleasantly
with a cup of ,coffee, and at the

There is no doubt that every
person who attended thoroughly
enjoyed an excellent day.

ignoring the ,fact that every child
has a -debt too great to repay and
a heartful of sentiment too deep

Although. ' the formal
--- observance of Mother's Day was
started less than 60, year$• sago,
the feeling it intends to convey
is as old, as motherhood itself.
Anna * M. Jarvis, originated the
celebration in 1907- to pay
respect°• her own mother. The
. world .has since followed suit
and on the • second Sunday in
May children young and old seek
to .communicate filial love in its
purest forma .
Our debt to Miss Jarvis' is
twofold. _Not only 'did, she set
aside the, day for. -,_honoring..
mothers; she also set the
-standard of expression that best
reflects the sentiments that have
to be expressed. The flowers she
chose, the carnation, has
endured. as a Mother's • Day
favorite to tell in humble grace
and beauty the measure- of
appreciation for a lifetime of
devotions •
Now . the tradition .•• of
presenting flowers to mother has
become as • necessary a,s turkey
• for thanksgiving. As a'salute

The Goderich Art Club, held

April 21 at the studio.
The President, Miss Mary

regarding a grant of $40 t� help

seminar.
