Citizens Of
Colborne Township
Colborne Township Council has been compellerd to call a vote for
' April 15th. This will cost the township at least $.1,500.00: Citizens
may then say whether or not they are 'in favour of the sale of liquor
under a dining 'lounge 'licence .for .consumption with meals on
- licensed premises.
It is because the liquor trade never gives, up! 1t thinks only of its
money, -no matter how uncertain the economy. It eagerly backs with
unlimited funds, any group which will pies, for new Liquor outlets
because NEW OUTLETS ALWAYS MEANS MORE DRINKING.
The presentation of thisquestion is the "thin edge of the. wedge."
Once one outlet is voted in, °any number may be approved at any
location without reference to voters. Never' yet . has an increased
number of beer and liquor sales with its ' consequent increase in
drinking,' added to the prosperity or dignity of any town or
township. Only those engaged in the' beer. and"liquor industry profit
from it. ^
The courts are overwhelmed with liquor cases and, traffic cases .
related thereto. More outlets make -for more impaired' drivers, more
n.
accidents, more. money spent for- liquor which could b used for
better_homes, better education, and happier old age. `•
Why are certain people of Colborne Township for vote "No"?.
1: Because we believe, in building a safety barrier above the
alcoholic cliff instead of having to care for more unfortunate victims
who otherwise would certainly come to grief. •
2. Our county is poorer every day because of the Liquor and beer
traffic. A county or township is enriched, not by liquor" revenue but
by mind and muscle of the inhabitants. Anything that robs 'muscle
and mind robstny township. -
„ 3: Consider this. Economists affirm that for every dollar received
by the government from liquor sales THREE dollars are spent on
pointing,,, rendering legal .aid, mental and general hospitalization.for
alcoholics, treatment- centres etc. Where does the extra come from? -
The people. This is an imposition. it doesn't -'come from the beer and
liquor companies. They look after their own, profits only. Give back
to mothers,• wives and sisters, their sons, husbands and brothers that
have been worse than murdered by the legalized liquor: traffic, before
