Now, I have a note from another "character" who likes to "Remember - When?" every chance she gets. Since I did not 'live here for some of it, I can still. 'go along with her on many, of her travels - and she has been a great traveller. She is a sentimental cuss just like me and she, was a tom boy — just like me - so I can call her a `cuss' if I like* ' One thing she recalls, Bert McDonald down at the dock teaching the kids to swim. He believed that if you wanted to play around the water you, had to learn to .swim' right away, When they were• proficient in their swimming the big test was, jumping. in on the ,deeP,,side.rit where the big boats come in; and .under his • watchful eye they swam across and back. Then they might have a trip on, the "Anna Mac." That was the pleasure . and worker tug before the `Donald Bert,' the `Ian Mac' — and others. • Inthose days the Harbourlite Inn was then called -the Goderich Pavillion and' the "Pav" had the best dance floor "of any resort for miles and miles around. Dancing at the Pav was the hi -lite of the week and usually topped off the week, because next day was "church on Sunday" and'' if you were allowed to swim; on Sunday you were lucky, ' otherwise you paraded up and down the pier Street and The Square.
