Each Saturday from October 11, 1969, to March, 14, 1970, Bob McCrabb; 'club professional, instructed the, 166 figure. skaters and Bruce Brady directed the 24 -power-skaters., Private lessons were ,available on 'Tuesday evenings frorri f3 , p.m. to 10 p.m, ' Advanced test days were held in Clinton and Adastral Park with three prelithinary figures and 12 preliminary dances passed. March 1 test day, Jan Pettus received . a first in preliminary figures with Patrice Craven" passing tier swing dance. Several.. Goderich skaters participated 'in the inter -club competition at Clinton in December. Rusty ` Ormandy passed his preliminary figures at" Stratford during the Winter School. Many local club members attended Winter School in December at Stratford and are planning f o attend the, Spring School held in Stratford. • An added attraction for the club this year was the Candyland float -for the Christmas parade: Mr. and Mrs. Bob`Chapman'very artistically assembled the attractive float, which won first prize in . the youth 'group - di�csion. These five youngsters were among the nine members of the Goderich Figure Skating -Club who won .awtariis for various events throughout . the season. Back, left to right, are, Lorraine . ' February 27 , ander 28 the an ual carnival entitled "Ice N•cks '70" was -held in the Goderich Memorial Arena. Enthiisitic capacity crowds, both young and - old, were in attendance -each night. ' Dan Murphy acted • announcer for the show. �T.h� 200 skater cast was supported by guest skaters Shirley Baier, Mitchell and Scott Murray, St. Marys; Mr. and Mrs. Walsh "and their" seven daughters, .Stratford; Mary McFadden, .Bayfield; and -Susan Hildebrand, Seaforth_ . R. Chapman designed and constructed the set, Mrs, Wm. Schaefer assisted, with the drapes, .Mothers and -volunteers spent many hours making the 40 pant suits worm by the skaters jf the ' number "Freeway Panic." Without the assistance of the advertisers; St. .John -Ambulance and the energetic volunteers the successful icy show could not. have been •,accomplished. Saturday, • March 'l` 14, completed the, .figure skating season -at the-local-arena:-Badges— and he--local-arena iiadges—and trophies were awarded • to the many deserving skaters, There were 83 badges awarded to power skaters, 249 to junior skaters, 39 to senior and intermediate skaters; . Mrs. Marion Mills was in 'charge -of 'awarding the trophies and congratulated each skater on behalf of the club. John • Williams and Fran Johnson received the Senior Dance Trophy donated by Mr. and Mrs. Craven; Kitty Niblock and Lorrine Pettus the Junior Dance Trophy donated ,by Mr. and Mrs: Trey. Ormandy. • Senior Ladies Trophy, Carol Chapman, donated by Dominion Road Machinery; -Intermediate Ladies Trophy, ' Kitty Nibloclk, > donated by Sifto Salt; Junior Ladies Trophy, Kathy Fielder, donated by D & J ..Machine Shop., The ' Most Improved Boy Skater Trophy was awarded to Deiter Krohnier, donated by Bob McCrabb; the Beginner Girls Achievement :ophy, 'Christine Wildgen; donated - -by : M.:. _ S. _. Sutherland. • , • G. F.S.C. .awarded Hazel'Stephens the. Beginner's Cup. Junior Power Skater Trophy was- won by Pat Murphy, with B:ob McGill receiving the Senior Power Skaters Trophy.
