$IONAL STAID, THURSDAY,. FEBItIl *AO 19, 1970 ,P,44,4144141417.1.45.4.4 r1 With Shirley r Woman to Womac One of the most pleasant° tasks. I: have had in a long time • was to be at the Children's Aid -Society -banquet in Knox Presbyterian 'Church last Wednesday evening to witness 'a presentation to Mrs: Albert Taylor, an 83 -year-old Goderich woman who has devoted'her life to all kinds of service in the community. - Mrs. Taylor has spent ,41 years working with the CAS in ' Huron. She worked 13 years as a volunteer and was a member of, the board for 31 years. Last year, she was honorary president of the CAS....: .0 • In • 4a ---few brief but well -worded ,remarks, Mrs. Taylor -recalled a time when the CAS in Huron County was just a fifth wheel on the wagon. She said whenthe .board assembled inthe court house one month for a meeting, there was .no - space available to them in the entire " building, so the CAS board was banished to the basement and held the erneeting while sitting around the furnace. • She told a rather " amusing story about her early wgrk with the --- CAS. 'Mrs. Taylor remembered an Easter back in the thirties when she -had-saved - $3:50 for a newt Easter bonnet and decided instead to . give the money to, a woman who had no • shoes to ..wear. The very grateful recipient of the shoes and a coat, • another gift of Mrs. Taylor, was seen on her way- to church _Easter morning sporting a new hat while Mil. Taylor wore the head gear ' she had ,. worn' the previous year ,because she had given her hat money away. There is little doubt that Mrs. Taylor has; been' an inspiration - and -a help to_the CAS in'Huron throughout the years. understand Mrs. Taylor was never afraid to voice her opinions if she believed she was right.; and if the expression of those- opinions could possibly assist the needy families in the county. • . We've come a long way since • the early days, that' Mrs. Taylor remembers. Then there were just six people at an annual meeting; -then county council contributed ` $150 annually to "lunatics and children." .,, ,Apparently, we ha'i e a long way to go yet, judging from what Norman W. Paget, CAS in Erie County, Buffalo, N..Y , had to say: Mr. Paget's whole message.: centred . around h -is 1 • S N to U,Q,W.'Meeting '' Wassel at the borne of Mrs,, Harry Girviri with 14 ladies and 90Q present. Larry Hawkins will be given • $5 for cutting .the grasp .around the church last summer and Mrs. Charles Johnston will arrange to have someone cut it this ,year, s : An Easter Lily . gill- 'be purchased for the .chu.rcli for 'distribution there, but began to discussions as I am sure „was the =,.
