(and the Editor does the pictures too!) Good going, Mr. Price and all your little helpers. I feel, as many around , town- and especially those away from town, that we should thank SOMEONE for the great change in the Signal -Star. A ybar or so ago, three or four friends who are miles away — but still get their 'Signal' — were on the verge of cancelling. "Nothing in it for us" they said. Now these same people have said how much they are enjoying the paper since there is much more ARENA HOLIDAY SCHEDULE December 25, 1969 PUBLIC SKATING 2-4 P.M. — Admission 25c December 26, 1969 PUBLIC SKATING 2-4 P.M. — Admission 25c December 26, 1969 • PUBLIC SKATING 8-10 P.M: — Admission 50c • December.. 30, 1969 PUBLIC SKATING 2-4 P.M. — Admission 25c January 1, 1970 PUBLIC SKATING 2.4 P.M. — Admission 25c January 2,. 1970 vo. --PLUBLIC _SKATING _ ,w`Tromthler-like" t?ne,to button up_ s-ntttens-ancl--tf 2-4 P.M. — Admission 25c he gets the sniffles he's to go right to bed and drink plenty of January 2, 1970 hot tea. And, too, it also makes them acquainted with many new people in our town. At one time the town was small enough that everyone knew everyone — and I mean EVERYONE — AND their business! Now, there are so many new faces — so many of the children's children grown up that we have a whole new generation running the town and its businesses. So, that is why it is so wonderful to have so much news of Goderich and the large New comedy show for children to debut on Jan 2 A lighthearted new comedy series designed to entertain and inform young viewers in the eight to twelve age group will make its debut on the CBC -TV network, Friday, Jan. 2, at 4:30 p.m. The 12,week series is called The Marbles and features six bright young actors who entertain in reasonably fast -paced comedy sketches and blackouts. They make as many as 10 costume changes on each 'show as well as appearing as themselves. The performers, selected from among some 80 who auditioned before CBC -TV schools and youth producer Gloria White, are: Rudy Lavalle, Harriet Cohen, Stephen Katz, Mary Bellows,'Graham Teear and Gail Malenfant. "The Marbles does not follow any strict formula format or patter," says the producer, "but subjects dealt with are chosen on the basis of good taste, kookiness and as much of an understanding of today's youngsters as one can possibly have this type of program is to try to see the world from the child's CO 11 t9st • Mrs. White believes the key to point of view, however difficult. w Historical figures, for example, are presented in a light manner. In bidding Sir Francis Drake goodbye as he pies off to meet the Spanish Armada, Queen Elizabeth warns him in a "We also present contemporary mores and manners in a satirical way, social advice for the young, and questions and answers. In. short, we take a look at most everything that affects our youngsters today — parents, school, sports, current issues, dating and fashion. Sometimes our sketches have a message, sometimes they are strictly for fun." Heard regularly throughout the shows are, Mr. and Mrs. Announcer — two off -camera voices supplied by Al Maitland and Maggie Morris. They announce sketches, talk to the marbles and talk between themselves. Appearing frequently throughout the series are two comical cavemen, Conklin and Fogbert. The Marbles is written by David Mayer, William Lynn. Gary Gray and Fred Hollett. a outlying area around it, in the % print and photographs. This is another reason why the - Signal has a "Women's Section" with a very nice lady who Would like you to call her. about little — and big — homey news items. Many of your friends would like to know who your "special visitors"were. For instance I've mentioned different people, like our old • friend plucky Doak and 'family who now live at Sharbot Lake (Ontario). Everyone, I'm sure, knew Bucky. . Yoti never met a more friendly, more cheerful person than Buck and he made you feel your aches and pains were Id! in your head — and he was liable to TELL you so! He had his bad moments, being handicapped as he was, but he would never talk about it. He has just come thro' a terrific operation and is now home from hospital in Ottawa and like his old self again. (He's just too ornery to lie down for long). We all wish him well, for there are not too many "Buckies" in this world. Now, this is the sort of thing I like to tell you about so that you can keep track of your old friends — but I have to be TOLD about it — I just don't know THAT many. So a note to Shirley Keller — or tell me — you know I'm a big blabbermouth! and everyone can enjoy hearing of folks in and around Cialerich. Oh, —Twilit to tell you that I'rn sure if you hadn't ALL wished for nice weather for that Santa Parade it would have been terrible. That's co-operation for you! So, I think we will be talking about Christmas for a long time. Have a nice one. Colouring 8 4 sv. 4 January ,4, 1970 I will have to cut off his head."
