Minister's study
REV. KENNETH KNIGHT
Calvary Baptist Church
"Merry Christmas and Happy
New Year, Joe," stated the
normally respectable
businessman with his arm
around. Joe's shoulder, (more for
support than in a gesture of
comradeship). "Have a drink
with me to celebrate!" This is
the scene that takes place year in
and year out and to God it must
be disgustingly insulting, to see
men celebrating the birth of
their only Savidur from sin —
BY SINNING!
Do men ever consider just
why Jesus came? We sing our
Carols of joy and peace without
listening to the message they
contain. e.g. To quote a part of
one, "...Born that man no more
may die; Born to raise the sons
of earth; • Born to give them
second birth." There it is! Jesus
was born to be the sin -bearer for
each human heart that is lost in
sin, and because of His perfect
life, substitutionary death, and
victorious resurrection, men by
faith in Him. can also know
eternal life by the experience of
the new birth.
This is the sum and substance
of why Jesus came as He Himself
stated "For the Son of Man is
come to seek and to save that
which was lost." Luke 19:10.
All people, (including the
normally respectable
businessman), are lost without
Christ, no matter what their
religious affiliation might be!
Presbyterian WMS
Churches do not save souls. Only
Christ can do that for you.
A few years ago, the
newspapers reported - the death
of a pedestrian who was standing
on the safety island and yet
struck by a car!
He had every reasori to believe
that he was safe on the safety
island, but he wasn't. What
should have been a place of
security became a .place of
death.
-Isn't this true in the spiritual
life as well? How many 'people
are "in the church" and yet not
at all safe! Others are depending
on good deeds, • their upright
lives, their religious associations.
There is only one safe place:
in Christ! He is the ark of safety.
Once you have committed your
life to Him, you know you are
saved.
If you have been Born again
by faith in Christ, you certainly
will have a Merry Christmas.
However, if you do not have
the "know -so" salvation that
Jesus came to give you, then you
can't really celebrate His birth!
Why not ask, right now, Jesus
to be your Saviour. Then you
too can have the happiest, most
contented holiday season that
only His peace can bring. You
have nothing to lose- but your
sinful past and guilty conscience,
and who needs either! You will
know God's Richest Blessings
and it will be indeed — A Merry
Christmas!'
