brought greetings from the town
and described the local utility as
an "...effective body functioning
in an extremely businesslike
manner." Dr. Mills offered his
congratulations to the staff of
PUC for its achievements during
the year. •
" Jack Anderson, president of
the AMEU of Ontario warned
utilities were going to have
problems building facilities in
the future as ,the Canadian
people are becoming more
conscious of the beauty ' of their
country. He noted the PUC
party was a tremendous public
relations effort and pointed out
the value of more public
relations in the years to come.
He said the Goderich PUC
night was becoming famous,
throughout Ontario and
congratulated the band on its
efforts.
Archie McGugan, president of
district 6 of the OMEA,
commented on the harmony
that was prevalent in the local
utility noting the commission
even had its 'own musical family
on the staff. -
Mr. McGugan said he was
sorry W. J. Mills was no longer
serving on, the district 6 council
but said Mr. Mills had
recommended a worthy
successor in George Filsinger:-
He noted costs would increase
in the next few years and it
would cost much more to
produce electricity through
thermal power than it had
through the use of water. He
said bonds that had been at
three percent when first taken
out had recently been reissued at
81/2 percent. He said there was no
doubt at- all that hydro increases
could be justified.
The employees of the PUC
were ' presented with a plaque
recognizing a full year in 1969
without a lost time accident, a
duplication of the record last

The plaque was presented by
Harry Flack, manager of the

That's right. Last Friday some
Snowmobile club
Goderich and area shoppers had
a chance to see themselves on
TV — and it caused quite a stir,
particularly with the young set.
Rivett's TV had a small
self-contained camera set up
outside the store. About the size
of a shoe box, it is a complete
television studio and beams out
on Channel 6.
A television set inside the
store' hooked to the camera and
tuned to Channel 6 picked up
the show of shoppers.
A spokesman at the store
expects the camera will be set up
again this weekend for the
pleasure of folks who want to
get a look at themselves in the"t
natural state at this time of year
— chilled, rushed and so happy.

to the problems of operating the
machines for recreation,"
explained Coun. Paul Carroll,
chairman of the board.
It was the general. feeling of
owners ' that they should be
permitted- to use town streets as
the machines are registered by
the Ontario Department of
Transport. Owners did feel that
some , consideration should be
given to using the machines on,
the boulevards when roads were
not in condition for use.
Disagreement at first arose
over a suggestion from the board
that facilities be made available
at the Maitland Country Club
and a` fee be paid= by owners for
the use. Owners felt"they should
not be made to pay extra for
operating the machine after
paying a considerable amount
for the machine in the first
place.
Owners agreed it would not
be out of hand to pay some of
the costs of preparing the range
and maintaining the facilities
providing the costs were not
high. .
It was `-, suggested large
numbers be placed on all
'machines to make them more
easily identifiable, facilitating
the police work of keeping the
machines used in a proper manner
Sam Argyle of Argyle Marine
offered to donate the 'numbers.
Mr.. Argyle also offered to
help the recreation board or
anyone else mark out a trail
along the upper banks of the
Maitland River, an area
considered first class for the
operation of the machines. '.
It was 'agreed the owners
should form themselves i to a
club and the- recreation board
will prepare plans for art
organization and meet with the
owners again.
The date of the next ,meeting. ' .
will be advertised.
