Collegiate basketball teams are off to an auspicious start this season. In six exhibition games played, the GPCI teams have a perfect tecorti of six victories. The Junior boys' team, under coach Pete tammaert, defeated Wingham 38-30 in a game in Wingharn last week and then beat Parkhill 32-24 here on Friday. Against Wingham, point getters were John Pamminger and Doug Fisher with nine apiece; Charley Turland, Steve Stringer and Brian Scully each with six points; and Rob Jerry with two. Brian Scully led the way against Parkhill with 10 points; followed by Doug Fisher with eight; John Pamminger, Steve Stringer and Dave Patterson with four each; and Gary Fisher with two. The. Junior squad showed good defensive rebounding in both games, and offensively,used the fast breaks to good advantage. Their defensive press worked well, especially against Parkhill, where it was probably the chief factor in the Vikings' victory. The Vikings' shooting was less thap impressive, but will improve with work. Ooach • Frank McDonald's Senior squad defeated Wingham 47-32, and edged Parkhill 31-29. Warren -watt hooped 17 ,points .against Wingham while Jon Ginn hit far 14. Stu Asher with six, Brian MacKenzie and — Brock Stimson with four each and Gary Lounsbury with two points rounded out the scoring. Top point getters for Wingham were Shinn, Smith and Pritchard with six apiece. The win over Parkhill was a thriller that saw the Vikings down eight points with three minutes to go. Gary Lounsbury stole the ball repeatedly from the opposition to set up the Goderich come back that saw – Brock Stimson hoop the winning • basket with 20 seconds to go. Top scorer was Jon Ginn with eight points. Warren Watt added six,. Stimson five, -Brian MacKenzie and Dave Carruthers four each, while Stu Asher and Gary Lounsbury both had two points. The -Senior team has four returnees from last year, with six •graduates from the Junior squad rounding out the roster. Not to be outdone by their male counterparts, the Goderich Collegiate girls' teams both scored victories over Wingttam. • he Senior girls won 10-- 9 in a low scoring game, while the Juniors came put on the long end of a 1644 squeeker. For the Seniors, Peggy Stoddart got five points, Gail Fisher and Clara Bedard two each, while Jennifer Cook added one. ° kr. Susan Duckworth led the Junior team with nine points, Sue Godfrey had four, Tanya ° Palmer, two, and „Gail Fritzley one. Coaches of the girls' teams are Maureen Dowds and Jane Mentzer.
