Mrs. Betty Reid, left, is made quite welcome at the home of Mrs. Arnold Best, 220 Wellington St.,
and in the congenial atmosphere opens her Hi Neighbor. booklet and introduces Mrs. Best to all the
businessmen she has listed. She also informs Mrs. Best of many services and facilities available in
Goderich and tries to answer any questions Mrs. Best may have concerning life in this lakeport
town.
Christmas time
happy time ??
Christmas should be a happy
time for children. Yet, for many
Christmas is atime of sadness.
Perhaps it's because their dreams
haven't come true. They feel
that maybe Christmas is only for
others, not for them.
- But their dream can come
true — for The SalvItion Army,
through you, can bring a
measure of happiness to less
fortunate children. So join in the
true spirit of Christmas and send
a generous donation to The
Salvation Army. You'll be glad
you did.
Mrs.. Arnold -Best (left) opens her door for Mrs. Betty Reid, Goderich Hi Neighbor hostess. Mrs.
Best moved here from Peterboro with her family in mid-October and say t she thinks she will like it
in Goderich. Mr. Best is an employee of Victoria and Grey Trust. The couple have two children,
David, 9, and Linda, 6. Also living with the family is Mrs. Best's mother, Mrs. William McKenzie.

It took a couple of months to

BettY's intention was to get as
many sponsors as possible,

introduction in the book she was
compiling and offer their free

At first she had 21 sponsors
represented in her book which
also included a map of the town,

Goderich, inormatiOn on
churches, doctors, dentists, etc.,
as well as a couple 'of tourist
pamphlets to remind all
newcomers that Goderich is a
resort town. The book is
growing' all the time'and there is
even a waiting list of sponsors.
-
Betty has maqe about 200
calls in three years. In all ' that
time she reports that she was
unwelcome at only one home.
"You meet ‘so many people,"
Betty said. "It is so rewarding."
The names of newcomers are
taken from PUC listings. Of
course some Goderich folks
- interested in the Hi Neighbor

time to time advising her of new
families in town.
There is just one rule.
