A three-day course starting
November 17.
Safety Co-ordinator's
Development:. A five-day course
to be held on two more
occasions, commencing
November 2 and December 8.
Basic Principles of
Punch -Press Safety: A two-day
course to be held twice more
starting November 12 and
December 10.
Conference Leadership: A
five-day course starting
November 24.

Less commuting,
more learning
People who work with punch
presses at Kitchener, London
and Windsor will be spared a lot
of commuting if they want to
learn punch -press safety this fall.
The excellent response to an
out-of-town pilot project started
=-.last year has encouraged the
I.A.P.A. to organize punch -press
safety training courses in these
three cities. It is a two-day
course, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
daily. Registration fee is $15.00
This course is designed to
teach the techniques of safe,
productive punch -press
operation. Suitable candidates
for the course would be
operators supervisors,
maintenance and set-up men; as
well as time study and process
planning personnel.

Charles Black

Charles I. Black, 48; a
prominent 'figure in hospital
affairs in the St. Thomas area for..
many years, "' was elected
president of the Ontario
Hospital Association for
'1969-70 at the 45th annual
convention of the province -wide
hospital organization held in '
Toronto recently.
Mr. Black, a general insurance
agent in Rodney, Ontario, and a _
trustee of St: Thomas -Elgin
General Hospital since 1960, was
formally installed as president
during the Association's annual
.banquet. He succeeds Walter L.,
.McGregor, a prominent lawyer
and member of the Essex Health
Association board.
More than 7,000 delegates
from all parts of Ontario
attended the three-day gathering
of hospital trustees,
administrators and staff, which
ranks as the largest of its kind in
Canada.
As president, Mr. Black will
lead a voluntary organization of
some 300 public general, Red
Gross, chronic and convalescent
hospitals, and other allied health
institutions.
Born in Northern Ireland, Mr.
Black was brought up and
educated in Elgin County and
has been clerk -treasurer of
Aldborough ' Township since
1943. He was elected a director
of the . Ontario Hospital
Association in 1964.

Association conducts - regular
courses in first-aid. To Maintain
and expand this training,
competitions are offered
between teams of qualified men
or women. Thus, industry can.
become -directly involved in this
first-aid program.
If "-you have four men or
women who are trained
first -aiders in your company,
they will be eligible to form a
team to compete in this contest. •
The I.A.P.A. will award two
trophies at the Annual
Conference in April to the best -
men's team and the best
women's team: The contests will'
Perth -Huron hospitals
to be studied for- needs
A Toronto consulting firm
will be engaged to study the role
of all hospitals in Huron and
Perth counties as to future needs
in a regional scheme, it was
decided at a meeting of the
counties' hospital planning
councils October 15. ..

the Perth hospital council, said
cost of the study would range
between $15,000 and $20,000,
with the Ontario .Hospital
Services Commission paying
more than 50 percent.
Hospitals in Perth and Huron
have agreed to pay the remaining
costs on a per -bed basis.

decided not to merge with the
Perth unit until completion of
the study, Which is expected to
takeone year.
