The horn came from the Yukon Territory. Holding it is Cathy Smith, daughter of Mrs. Shirley Smith of . 10, West Hill. The Christmas Country Fair was held at Carlow last week by the Country Crafts. Group of Colborne Township. ,Mrs. Wilmer Hardy, president; said the attendance was the best ever with over 1,200 .attending the two day event. Extra work had been carried out on- the old coach inn to provide larger- quarters. The displays contained everything from Christmas corsages and home made cookies to oil paintings and hand hooked rirgs..While the odd booth or two had commercial crafts on them, most of -the items were hand made locally by the ladies of the Country Crafts Group and by local artists and potters. Mrs. Hardy said she does not think the size of the building will allow any expansion for next year, and no plans are being considered for longer than two days for the fair. Mrs. Jean McKee, Benmiller, is Blyth. Mrs. Shirley Smith is from West Hill and came to Carlow last weekend for the Christmas Country. Pair. She operates Shirley's Canadian Crafts in Grand Bend during the summer months and was pleased to be able to, take part in the local fair. Mrs. Muriel Fisher, 199 Cambridge Street, makes her hobby ..of finishing driftwood pay off once in a while. The driftwood is collected along the beaches in the area with the help of Mrs. Fisher's husband and children. She hag" been finishing driftwood for the past 5 years and likes doing it. She had some of her finished products on display at the Christmas Country Fair Mrs. Dorothy Fisher, left, 158 Lighthouse Street, and Mrs. Evelyne Allin, 86 Blake Street are amateur candle makers and spend much of their spare time preparing candles for all events. They • displayed their products at the Christmas Country Fair at Carlow last week and attracted the attention of many of the 1,200 people who'attended the two-day fair.. +s - M A variety of crafts and arts was, on display at the fourth annual Christmas Country Fair held at. Carlow this past week. The fair was organized by the ladies of the Country Crafts Group located in Colborne Township. Mrs. Wilmer Hardy, president said the event was the best attended yet with over 1,200 putting in an appearance during the two days the show ran. The opening day was Wednesday October 29 and the final day was Saturday, November 1. The days were chosen to enable peop from stores in the area to attend while the stores were closed and when the rest of the working force was off work for the weekend: Arts and Crafts groups from outside the area were invited to attenid this year and visitors came from as far as Toronto to either take part in the faWor see the exhibits. •x Local people by the score attended the Christmas Country Fair in Carlow wall Hai wee k and there were also many from out-of-town. The itenft on display had a distinct Dutch theme about them, ,perhaps because Holland is the homeland of the two ladies operating the booth. 5, • •
