From the .
Minister's study
REV. ARTF(JR MAYBURY
Fist Baptist Church
Want 'some , love?
Let me quote some of the
words from the song, "There's
Going To Be A Wedding" in the
play BARNABY soon to be
presented; by our local Little
Theatre group. The play was
written by Mr. Brian Markson, a
resident of Goderich, and these
lyrics are used with his
permission.
"Love and Joy and Merriment
Be with you through the years.
Togetherness is nurtured
Where mistrust disappears.
Accept each others reason
For deeds not understood
Discuss a point don't argue
Its may be for`your good °
And when the years have passed
you
And children bless your way
Look back with joy and
merriment
Upon your wedding day."
These words embody some of
the highest ideals for marriage. It
is not easy, however; to live up
to the advice here. The . biggest
factor in one's ability to follow
these guidelines is one's security
or lack thereof. If you are never
really sure that you are right
when - you disagree with
someone, the odds are that you
will defend your position with
even greater vehemence.
When I think of the load of
Consideration that falls on the
shoulders of the marriage
partners, I remember the words
of Christ, "Come unto Me, all ye
that labor and are heavy laden;
and I will give you rest." This is
not a promise that everything
will be a bed of roses. Quite
simply, it is a promise that if we
remember that a marriage .is
made up .of three people —
husband, wife, and God — there
will be an underlying security
that can be found in no other
way. There is no better
foundation upon Which to build
life than that foundation that
will never change.
Everyone wants to be loved;
and , who can show greater love
than He who died for you.
Everyone wants to be safe and
secure; who can hold us better
than He who has told us that
underneath are His everlasting
arms.
Want love? Want a good
marriage? Rely on the ` only
source of Love and loving
relationship, God, as shown to
us in Jesus.Christ.

'Hallowe'en had a special meaning for some area children last week when they arrived at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. George Turton, Huron Road. They were greeted by a witch on a real broomstick.
Heather Turton, centre, didn't seem to mind the witcji too much, she was used to it — her mother
made it, but Kelly Erb, a neighbor, wasn't too sure what to think. Mrs. Turton made the effigy to
help make.the neighborhood a little brighter for Hallowe'en. She and her husband hope the idea of
decorating homes for Hallowe'en will spread in future years. — staff photo

thousand copies of this popu-

But this is a presentation
with a difference. In contrast
to the instruction which is
,given in most hotel Bibles —
"Please do not remove this

CLINTON GODERICH
To the Editor
Mr. Norman Pyrah has most
kindly forwarded to me the page
from your paper devoted to the
history of our church, together
with the appeal you have so
kindly incliided,for financial and
practical help in our present task
of re -roofing this. ancient
building 'with stone as it has
been during the previous eight -
centuries of its existence. This
stone is no longer quarried and
so a wide search has had to be
made in order to find used slabs
thereof large ,enough to replace
those here we are unable to
re -use. This, of course greatly
adds to the cost, but we feel we
must do our utmost to maintain
the original character of the
building. The response from
Canada, started by Bill Lynch's
letter, has been quite
overwhelming and words seem
-utterly inadequate to express
our thanks to you wonderful
people over there. While, having
been taught to be cautious, one
mustn't set one's hopes too high,
if so much has been achieved by
the one short letter sent by Bill
Lynch to the Toronto Telegram,
one cannot but, feel your
excellent and moving displayed
and illustrated article must have
a very much greater impact.
For everything, therefore, and
especially for your good will and
just for caring about our need, as
we in our turn are proud and
glad to be the only church in
England housing a memorial to
the Canadian dead in the Dieppe •
Raid and to keep alive their
memory and that of the raid..
itself.... THANK YOU

A Bible Society colporteur
in France received a letter
from a 'prisoner, who wrote
that while reading a text from
the book df Ezekiel:' "For I
'have no pleasure in the death
of anyone, says the Lord God,
so turn and live" (18, v.32 ), he
did in fact turn from his sin
to God .. . . and was convert,
ed." "Now I turn Ito you" he
wrote, "to help me to get off
on the right foot in the Christ-
ian faith, because I shan't get
'any good advice about that
-here in prison. When you are
a thief and Christ invites you
to follow Him, you need some-
one to guide you." The prison-
er is now taking a Bible cor-
respondence course. •
In a strongly • Communist
arta two other colporteurs
calif' across a young man of
about 24, painting his house.
He did not receive them ki:,A-
ly ! What, me? The Gospel!
Don't make me laugh! Do .1
look mug enough to be a
Christian?" Hearing a friend
call.. him John, they replied,
jokingly, "But you have a very
Christian name! John was a
disciple whom Jesus loved
very much." This. ,seemed to
leave him cold.
A Year later the colporteurs
saw the young man again —
still painting his house! He
seemed to have a craze for it:
They bade him good morning.
• "Hey!" he called, "have you
still got that book of John your
told rrie about last . time?"
"Yes, but it's a Gospel." "That
doesn`t matter . 'I'd Pike
one!"
