WES BRADNOWC WALKERTON CLUB The Walkerburn Club held their October meeting at the home of Mrs. Ted Hunking with a good attendance of members • * and visitors. Mrs. Hunking opened.the meeting by singing 0 Canada followed by a prayer by Mrs. • Stanley Ball. The minutes were accepted as read by Mrs. George Schneider. She called the roll and it was answered by each telling where they attended public school. The draw gift presented by Miss Shirley Hunking was won by Mrs. Leonard Archambault. On motion of Mrs. Lorne Hunking and Mrs. Walter 16 Cunningham, it was carried that a 50 -cent gift be brought by each member to the next meeting for a penny sale. It was . decided to save all American pennies and donate them to thl3.. Christmas Children's Fund. •a Mrs. Stewart Ament introduced the guest speaker of the afternoon, Mrs. Robert Carter, of Blyth. She demonstrated cake decorating. . A successful bake sale was held with Mrs. Joe Hunking as 'auctioneer. Plans were made, for the next meeting to be held on October 28 at •the home of Mrs. Arie Duizer. The program is to be in the charge of Mrs. Thomas Cunningham and Mrs. Henry ' Hunking. • The hostesses for lunch will be Mrs. Stanley Ball and Mrs. Stewart Ament. PRESBYTERIAN WMS HOLDS THANKOFFERING SERVICE Knox Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society held their annual Fall Thankoffering in the church with the president, Mrs! Wilfred Sanderson, in charge. The call to worship was Give Thanks to God and was followed by all present repeating the Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Donald Haines was the organist for the meeting. After Welcoming the members and guests the president called on Mrs. Frank Raithby* who took charge of the devotional period. She chose for her O scripture lesson Psalm 95, 100 and 150 and for her meditation, Renewing old customs and Thanksgiving. The , secretary, Mrs. Alvin Leatherland, read the. correspondence. An invitation to s. attend • the UCW meeting on October 22 was accepted. It was announced that the WMS Presbyterial rally. will be held at Belgrave on October 22. A solo, Precious Name,was sung by Mrs. W. Bradnock. Guest speaker for 'the' afternoon, Miss Margaret Jackson, was introduced by Mrs. W. Sanderson and chose for her • Thanksgiving message, Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving. She began her inspiring message by asking what the Pilgrim Fathers. wOuld--think if they could be here Thanksgiving Day 1969. She gave 10 reasons why we should be thankful and reminded all that Thanksgiving time should" be a time to enjoy the blessings of which we are not worthy. The offering was received by Mrs. Roy Daer and dedicated by Mit. Sanderson and the guests and members were invited to the Sunday School room where lunch was served with Miss Minnie Wagner and Mre. Miss Betty Marsh of Hamilton spent the holiday with - her parents, Mr. • and Mrs. Bert Marsh: Mrs. Thomas Haggitt and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Raithby and John were with the conducted trip to Washington over the Thanksgiving weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Fred -Wagner and Mrs. James Jackson attended the wedding -• of their nephew at Brantford last weekend. •Mr. and Mrs. Lothar Schedler, Michael and Linda of Kitchener visited last Saturday with Mrs. W. Bradnock, Sharon and George. Guests last week with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Davies were Dave Wallace of Harrietsvilleyand Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Beach of Springfield. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Popko of London visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Phillips. There will be no church service next Sunday at Knox Presbyterian v Church, Auburn, due to the anniversary service at St. Andrew's s Presbyterian Church, ,Blyth, 'at 2 p.m. Congratulations to Ed Davies and Court Kerr on winning the Huron County Horse-shoe pitching contest last week. They will'now represent the County at Paris on October •18 at the International Plowing Match. TOLL Funeral services were heAl last Wednesday for Frederick William Toll, who -died at Huronview October 5, -1969, in his 79th year. He was the son of the late Frederick Toll and Martha Kernick and was born in East Wawanosh. He farmed on the ard Concession of East ,Wawanosli for many years and moved to Auburn in 1946. He was a member of Knox United Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Laura Stewart; two sons, Aubrey' of Blyth" and Stewart of London; " two daughters., Mrs. • Kenneth (Marjorie) McDougall,. Auburn and Mrs. Hugh (Amy) McCrostie, Goderich; ten grandchildren; one sister, Miss A. Toll, Blyth; and one brother, Dr. Charles Toll ' of Northern Ontario. Pastor Alfred Fry conducted the funeral service at the Arthur Funeral Home. -Burial took place at Union Cemetery, Blyth.• Pallbearers were Vaughan Toll, Dale McCrostie, Allan McDougall, Thomas Cronin, Gordon Gros§ and William Moss. • Flowerbearers were Harry Beadle, Gordon ?owell, William Dodd and Oliver Anderson, KNOX ANNIVERSARY Knox United. Church will hold a special anniversary service on October 19 at 11 a.m. The special speaker. will ,.be the Rev. Barry Passmore, the minister of the Wingham United Church. Mr. Passmore is no stranger to, the radio audience as he appears on Sunday mornings ,over CK,NX. The chair, under' Mrs. Florence Wightman, organist and ehoir leader, will bring special • music and song. • Visit old friends Mrs. H. Tichborne, accompanied by her sister, Miss Annie Kennedy, Wingham, went by plane to visit her brother and his family in. Winnipeg and he, despite his age (86), flew with them- to Victoria to visit another brother and his family there. While in ,Vancouver, Mrs tichborne was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Erich Mueller and Frank, who are quite happy in their flew surroundings and new home in North Vancouver. John Graham (son of the late Dr. J. M. Graham) and his family reside only a few doors away. The Muellers wished to be rememb-ered, to all their Goderich friends.
