of Auburn. WI
The Grandmothers of the
community vibre guests at the
regular September Meeting of
the Auburn yomen's institute
when they met in • the
Community 'Memorial Hall.
The meeting was in charge of
the Q. president, Mrs. Frank.
Raithby. After the opening ode,
the Mary Stewart Collect and 0
Canada IA ith NIrs. William J.
Craig at the pianb, the president
welcomed all to the meeting and
read a poem, - "An unused
custom."
The minutes Were read bN the
secretary, Nirs. Bert Craig. and
shealso gave the financial
statment. A letter Of thanks was
read from Mrs. M. Roberts
thanking the WI for the
departing gift, and for the '
fellowship while in .Nuburri.

that she could not get the
barbecues for the park and Mrs.
Gordon Taylor repOrted that the
linen tablecloths have not
arrived yet.

The program Was in charge of
Mrs. Arnold Craig, Mrs. Robert
MrS. William Dodd and'
Mrs. W. Bradnock with Mrs.
Bradnock as chairman.
'Mrs. W. Bradnock reported
10 girls in the 4-11 Club and Mrs.
I). Haines reported 12 girls in
her club-. Mrs.. Andrew
Kirkconnell, convenor of 'the
card committee, reported cards
were sent and read the
tharik-ou notes received. The
roll call was answered by each
member dispIaiiig their
Grandmother's pictige.
The sing -song was led.:by Mrs.
Gordon Taylor accompanied by
Mrs. William J. Craig. During the
sing -song a duet was sung by
Mrs. 'George Millian and \1rs.
Gordon McClinchey. Mrs.
.N.leclinchey played an
accordion solo and also sang a
solo accompanying herself on
tint, accordion. Readings - "Just
September and Autumn in our
liand" were given by Mrs.
Fasom. a duet - Beautiful Isle
of Somew here" was •sung by
\Irs. Andrew Kirkconnetl and
NIt';. John I)aer.
The motto - Do the
..Grandmothers of today. have
more privileges 'than those of
yesteryears, was given by Mrs.
Ralph Munro. She gave an
inspiring message on experiences
ith her own Grandmother; her
clothes at that time; how she
kept, her home and shopping
trips compartd to today's living.
In closing .she related how close
neighbours were in spirit and
that no one of that day
experienced the mental strain of
today's living.
Grandmother's Trunk and An
old Tintype chosen h Mrs.
Charles Scott, were read by Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt.

AUBURN ONE 4-H CLUB
The third, meeting of Auburn
1 4-11 Club was held at the home
of •Mrs. Frank Raithby with .the
president' ('on me flickey in
charge.
The meeting was opened with
the pledge and the minutes read
by the secretary, Ara Ball. The
roll call was answered by each
telling where the blanket or
buttonhole stitch could be used.
Mrs. Raithby and Mrs. W
Bradnock demonstrated the
feather stitch, the closed feather
stitch and the double feather
stitch.
All girls worked on thear
samples. The meeting was closed
with the -1-11 ('reed.
SPEEDY NEEDLES
The third meeting of the
Speedy Needles 1-11 Club was
held at the home of Mrs. Donald
Haines..
h e president. Donna
Charnney. opened the meeting
with the Pledge. The minutes
were read by Linda Jefferson
arid she called theyoll-which was
answered by telling w here the
blanket stitch could he used.

St. Mark's ACW
The Anglican Church Women
of St. Mark's Church, -"Auburn
met for it's September meeting
at the home of Mrs. Fordyce
Clark with d good attendance.
The Hostess was in charge of the
meeting which was opened by
singing .the hymn, 0., God of
Bethel by Whose ,Hand, - with
Mrs. Gordon' Taylor -as pianist.
She chose the scripture lesson
for, Luke 10th chapter and gave
a meditation on it, followed by
prayers.,,
- Rev. and Mrs. J. Keith
Stokes, the new rector and his
wife, were welcomed to the
parish.
The topic in charge of Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt was centred on
the theme, "Do we see other
people'?" and "We are failing to
many people." Mr. Stokes led in
an interesting discussion on this
'subject. -
After singing the hymn,
Praise the Lord, the ..,King of
Heaven. Mrs. Clark thanked 411
who had helped her with the
meeting's program.

MRS. JAMS ROBERTON
Funeral services were held at
the J. Keith Arthur Funeral
Ilome.Auburn. last week for
Mrs. James Roberton who
passed away- at Huronview. -
- She was born October 27,
1873, Mary J. .Townsend, the
daughter. of the late Elijak
Townsend and Sara Alice
Hunking in Hullett Township.
Following marriage, She lived
with her husband on the 13th of
Hullett Twp. and then retired to
Auburn, where they resided
until 01ev went to the Clinton
nursing home • and then to
Huronview.
She was a member of Knox

She is survived bN• her
husband, James Rubel -ton of

Walter. Townsend of Brantford
and several nephew's arid nieces.

The president, Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt presided for the business
part of the meeting. The minutes
were accepted as 'read by the
secretary, Mrs. John Daer. The
financial statement was accepted
as read by the treasurer, Mrs.
Andrew Kirkconnell. The
travelling apron received a penny
for each letter in "The Sermon
on the Mount." The roll call was
answered by each quoting a
erse from the Bible containing
- Harvest. It Was announced
that the annual Thanksgiving
Harvest Home service will be
held in S,c. Mark's Church on
September 28 at 1:15 p.m.
Mrs. Gordon Taylor showed
pictures of her trip to Florida
and around the district. >Mr.
Stokes pronounced the
benedicti on.
Following
the meeting a
successful auction was held
followed by a lunch served by
Mrs. Clark, assisted by ,Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt and Mrs. Donald
Haines.

SOCIAL CALENDAR
Mr. and Mrs,. Ed Davies
attended the nurses' graduation
ceremony at Woodstock for 'her
niece, Miss Patricia Anne'Monck
of 'London. The ceremony took
place in New St. Paul's Anglican
Church. She won a bursary and
will now continue her studies at
University of Western Ontario at
London.
The .annual Thanksgiving
service will be held next Sunday
September 28 at 1.1 5 -p -:m. The
new rector, Rev. 'J. Keith Stokes
will be the speaker and in charge
of the service. Everyone is
welcome.

attended a family reunion of the
McLellan family at Belmont las t
weekend.
