were held Friday to welcome new students tb the schooh Girls
were required to attend wearing -work -clothes, = including heavy -boots, have one -eye -painted red and
pillows stuffed down their shirts. Boys were dressed as half male, half female. At the end of the
school day this group was rounded up and made to "perform" for the senior students in the halls of

The game against the hard
hitting . Northern squad saw the
Vikings come up with their
strongest effort of the season.
The offensive line showed a
complete reversal of form and
began to work together to give•
quarterback, Tommy Craw ford,
the protection he needed to get
the offence rolling.
The Viking defence was.
tough too, refusing to yield
under the pressure of a heavy
Northern comeback attempt in
the second quarter, when the
Vikings 13 point lead seemed in
jeopardy.
The Viking defence adjusted
well to the loss Of linebacker,
Brian Rumig, last year's Junior
captain, " who is out for the
season with a severe knee injury
suffered in the Viking's game
against SCITS last week.
The scoring all came in the
first half with Goderich jumping
out on top with a converted
touchdown early in the first
quarter do a pass and run play
from Tom' Crawford EC, Bruce
Fisher which covered 7'8 yards.
Fisher was 'stopped on the
two yard line, but on the next
play Gary Lounsbury got the
major score on a slant through
the left side of the line.

in front 7-0;
The . Vikings' second
touchdown came in the second
quarter when, after consecutive
passes from Crawford to Jon
Ginn and good gains on the
ground by Lounsbury and
Brown, Lounsbury scored. from.

convert attempt was wide, so the

There was no scoring in the
third quarter but the stout
Viking defence distinguished
itself by holding the Northern
squad,off the scoreboard despite
a first and goal to go situation
on the Viking four yard line set
up by penalties imposed on the
aggressive Goderich squad.
Goderich controlled • the ball
throughout the fourth quarter,
but was unable to capitalize on
three good chances.
The Vikings open their
regular schedule in SI: Marys this
Thursday when both the Senior
and Junior teams - do battle
there.

schools may be closed on
