The group held a pot luck supper on Tuesday evening. September 16 at the -parish hall and held a short business meeting. SICK IN HOSPITAL Mrs. Gerry Vogt is a patient in the Alexandra Marine and General • Hospital, Goderich while her 15 year old daughter Ursula is seriously ill in Victoria Hospital, London. Miss •Lillian Zremski, an aunt, of Detroit, Mich., is caring for the Vogt family at the farm here. Brent Van Osch, 4 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Antone Van Osch has been a patient in the Wingham and District Hospital since Thursday. INITIATION DAY AT G.D,C.I. On Friday many' wierd looking . students boarded the school buses en route to the annual initiation rituals held each year at the O. D. C.L The girls were required to wear rags in their hair, one eye painted red, the other black, a pair of men's coveralls, complete with a pillow and work ,boots. The boys were fashionable with -their hair parted in the middle, fastened with barrets, 'a red and black eye, and pajama tops with a "fragile"--- sign across the back. One pant .leg was cut-off. They looked lovely as they hobbled on the bus with Mom's high heel. shoe -on one foot and a work boot on the other. - ENTERS JUNIOR B HOCKEY Mike Courtney, son of Mr. and Mrs: Leo Courtney will be moving to .Owen Sound where he will be 'playing Junior B hockey. Mike recently attended ,the training camp at St. Catharines. Marilyn McIntyre enrolled in the Bac(ielor of Arts Course at the University of Guelph. Marilyn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe McIntyre. Joan Elizabeth Tigert, yodngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tigert, made her First. HolyCommunion at St. Joseph's Church here Sunday. Brian Dalton returned to the Ottano College of Aff,1orontb,, for his final year. Rev. Father Thomas Moylan, S. J. arrived Saturday from St. Paul's College, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, to spend a few days here with his sister and brother-in-law, Mn and Mrs. Gilbert Frayne. Orlo. Frayne, Toronto, was a recent visitor, with the Fraynes. Miss Agnus Kin'g, Hamilton, arrived on the weekend with Mrs. Emile Pahl and children to visit with Mrs. Blaise Martin. Ribar, Bradenton, Florida, and Miss Rose Zremski, Detroit, Michigan. FAIR DAY 'Remember to attend the local fair held at the Dungannon Fair Grounds, on Tuesday, September 30. Darryl Durnin, Goderich, grandson of Mr., and Mrs. Vincent Austin won fourth prize ' in the baby contest, one to six month class at,the Lucknow Fair • on Saturday. 1st Company Girl Guides. Kingsbridge First Company Girl 'Guides held their meeting Thursday evening Sept. 18th. Captain Tigert, assisted by Lt. Sinnett - took roll call and inspection. Forty-three girl were present. Lt. Sinnett gave instructions on compass and a compass game was played. Another game. "Emergency Line." conducted by Ltp Sinnett, was enjoyed by the girls. Captain.Tigert told thegirls to assist newcomers with the -Guide ,Law and Promise. • Campfire was held by the Bluebirds and the meeting was closed with Taps. M. Joyce Caesar who is replacing Lt. The severe electrical storm early last week was the cause of several homes being without hydro for a few hours. Irwin Campbell lost two head of cattle by lightning. Sympathy is extended to the MacDonald families in the passing of • .Mrs. Isobelle. MacDonald, a former resident of the area. Mrs.: Finlay MacDonald is back to work at the factory -in Lucknow after many months of, layoff due to a knee injury suffered in a car accident last -winter. Oliver McCharles. • JUDGE FAIRS Mr. and.Mrs. Oliver McCharles have 'travelled to many- places in Ontario where they have been 'judging at fairs. Along with them were Mr. and. Mrs. Bert Mason of Kincardine. The foursome have judged all departments of fairs in Northern Ontario at McKellar.. Coe Hill and Cochrane. • At fairs in the area they have been to Durham, Mildmay, Lion's Head, Mount Forest, Thornbury and this week will be at Ripley, Teeswater ,and Tara. ASHFIELD ASHFIELD WMS Mrs. R. West, °president, was in charge of the meeting of the \VMS. at Mrs. J. K. Rooney's. Mrs. Allan Macdonald gave the; meditation and Mrs. James West explained New Forms of" Mission. ` A record telling of modern ways of Missions overseas* was heard. Nits. E. MacLennan read a poem and Mrs." Rooney a newsletter from Armagh. Eighteen' members answered the roll call with a verse.with "harvest." The „nominating committee reported on ' new officers appointed and plans • for the Sectional Meeting on October 29 were discussed. Miss Sadie Johnson offered her home for the next meeting. Rev. D. G. Archibald of Paisley was in charge of the ; service in Ashfield Presbyterian F Church on Sunday while Rev. J. K. Rooney preached anniversary services in the Paisley Church. Mises Anna and Charlotte Mackenzie of Toronto visited relatives here last week. ` M. and Mrs. Fred MacGregor who used to live here. have moved from Peterborough to Goderich. Duncan Allen has returned from a trip to the west coast. Among those who took the bus trip to Detroit .last weekend were Mr. and ?sirs. ° Earl Macdonald and Gordon . Robb. Christine MacLennan is attending the - new Nursing School- in Strafford and ,Jan Simpson is attending the Toronto Teachers' College. Betty Simpson of Toronto was home for the weekend. On Sunday afternoon Peter Campbell of Lucknowisited with Mr. and Mrs- Dynes Campbell. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wall of Lucknow spent Sundays afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Art Wall, Tommny. and Tracey. 4Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Cuthill of Winthrop visited with the lady's. parents, Mr. and Mrs- Arthur Elliott, on Sunday. Visitors through the week were Mrs. Doreen Culbert honored at miscellaneous shower Betvr een 90 and 100 ladies gathered in the basement of Dungannon United Church on Tuesday evening for a miscellaneous shower for September bride -elect Doreen Culbert. The basement was decorated in pink and white streamers and bells and autumn flowers.-_ - Doreen's attendants were her sisters, Mrs. Albert 'Mason and Mrs. Glen Houston. _. Mrs. Bert Grasman began the short program with a poem„ followed by a solo by Diane Errington. The address, written up by Mrs. Leonard Chisholm and read by Mrs. Bert Grasman, was placed in the guest book which all signed. The many gifts were carried .in by Jean Houston, Betty Errington and Virginia and Leola Chisholm. Doreen and Fay :Mason showed the gifts. Doreen expressed her thanks and appreciation to everyone. Ice cream and cake were then served. Kinnette junior softball Thursday, September 18; in the third and deciding game of the Kinette senti,final series, the Blockbusters ,had a big third inning rally and went on to eliminate the Swingers by a 25 t6 7 score. On Sunday. the first game of *die . finals between the Blockbusters and 'the Bombers saw -the Blockbusters have a big second inning and go on to squeeze out a 12 to 11 win. Monday September 22. the Blockbusters emerged as the Goderich Kinette Junior Girls oftball League champions by defeating the Bombers by 22-10 and taking the hest of three series in two straight games. At. the. conclusion 'of the Monday night game, all teams were taken to the Kinsmen playground where the Kinette members presented them with crests and ` the champion • team received crests and "Champion" bars, The girls were then treated to barbecued hot dogs and pop. On Saturday, September 20, the Goderich Kinette Junior Girls met ,Clinton Kinette Junior Girls at Agriculture Park. Clinton . Juniors defeated Goderich Juniors by 12 to 5. P. Cunningham, the•Clinton pitcher had 10 strike outs. For Goderich, Lori Beattie had nine strike outs and Chris Wildgen had two. Goderich go to Clinton on Saturday, September 2'7 for a return game. and their dependents are invited to take advantage of a free Legion service. Mr. H. W. Moyes Service Bureau Officer from London will be at Robt. Wilson and Miss Clara Sproul of Goderich and Mrs. Hay of Toronto. On Saturday Mr. . and. Mrs. Maurice Desjardins of Courtright visited with Mrs. Earl Yule and family. , Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Ard of Wingham called on Mr. and Mrs. Tom Park on Saturday afternoon. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Don McNeil (nee Doreen Culbert) who were married on Saturday in the United Church here.
