Goderich District Collegiate Institute senior and junior football teams played their
first games of .the season last,Friday when they met Sarnia Central, last year's
champs. Goderich lost both encounters, 14-0 for the juniors and 12-0 for Mie senior
team. As far -as the seniors went, they were up against a squad of big boys. The
GDCI team seemed nervous of hitting hard, they were bad in blocking, failed to
watch the ends and when they didget a clianceto get over the line the receiver.— on
two occasions — wasoaught too close to the line in the end zone and couldn't reach •
the bali. as it went over his head. The closest Goderich came.to a touchdown was in
the second quarter when they got to the one yard line on athird down and failed to
get across.

Even though his team wIslwell ahead, Sarnia Coach Brian Voisey
didn't let up on his boys and more than once was heard to give a
tongue lashing to his team members over a wrong play. He
emphasized his words with a good punch at thin air and a jerk of
hi,s thumb to get the point home.
Coach Wayne Horner of GDCI has a few words with Tom
Crawford after a bad play by the GDCI team. Crawford was one
of the -more aggressive players for the local tern and was in the
thick of play 'when he was out on the field. Other GDCI players
felt the coaches tongue after poor performances and seemed to
get the message when they put up a, better showing when out the
next time.

Students at GOCI turned out by the score to root for their team Friday and
although the local teams lost to Sarnia in the Friday games. there will always be the
next one. Qoderich had been working out for two weeks prior to the game although
the final lines were not chosen until last week. The big Sarnia crew was the 1968

university or finished school. The main fault with the Goderich Seniors Wasn't id
much with their game as with their memories. They forgot where they were
supposed tope, and when theli, were supposed to be there. .
