More than 350 persons turned
out Saturday night to honor
Maitland Edgar, vice-principal at
Lambton Central Collegiate
' Vocational Institute.
Mr. Edgar was Liberal
candidate in the federal riding of
Huron In 1965 and 1968. He
was defeated both times by
Conservative Robert McKinley.
He- was also active in sports,
church • and service club work
and previously was honored by
the Western Ontario Athletic
Association. •
He taught at South Huron
District High School two years

School at CFB, Clinton.

Community Centre was in
appreciation for his contribution
to' the community in various
fields, plus helping to pioneer
.the Cltinton, recreation
committee. Mr. and. Mrs. Edgar
and their six children were
presented with a television set •
"luring the party.
Jets get `bombed' in
Kinette play-offs,
On Thursday, September 11,
the Bombers came back strong,
to even the series of play-offs by
downing the Jets by a score of
32 to 6.
On Sunday afternoon,. the
Swingers and Blockbusters
played a nip and tuck, game
hich saw the Swingers come
0 on top of a 16 to 14 score.
i the second game on
Sunday, the Bombers eliminated
the Jets by a 31 to 5 score.
On Monday, September 15,
the -Blockbusters forced a third
and deciding , game when they
downed the Swingers 22 to 14.
The third game will be played on‘

Thursday, September 18. Game
time 6:15 p.m.
On Sunday, the final series
will get under way with the
•
Bombers meeting the winner of
Thursday's game. The second
game will be played op Monday,
September 22, If a. third game is
necessary, it will be played on
Thursday, September 25.
Following the Final Game
° (whether it be on Monday,
September 22 or Thursday,
September 25,) ALL TEAMS are
asked to be present for a
presentation and small party
which will take place at the
Kinsmen Playground on South
Street.
On Saturday, September 20, a
team of Clinton Junior Girls will
come to , Agriculture. Park, to
play a team of Goderich Juniors
at 2:30 p.m. T4e Goderich Team
will be made up of girls selected
from each team.
Beta SigmaPhi holds
annual meeting
• The first annual meeting of
the Beta Sigma Phi was held
September 9 at the home of Mrs.
Shirley Baechler. There were 11
members responding to the roll
call, with three members absent.
During the business session,
committees were 'organized by
president, Mrs. Anita Swartman.
The members, were reminded
of topics to be discussed at
forthcoming meetings. The vice
president, Sue Gower informed
members of plans for the
"rushee program" for new
members.
An informative cultural
program ."Introduction and
Invitations" was delivered by
Anita Swartman.
Each of the members received
a gift - discovering their secret
sister of the past year. The
'evening was concluded with a
dessert prepared' by the hostess.

Education at a meeting ih the
board room of Central Huron:
Secondary School,- Monday
evening. ^ .
• Mr. Taylor fills the vacancy
l ft . by the resignation of
Norritan Shepherd, Wingham
barrister, who has entered into a
legal partnership in. Kincardine,
Bruce County, and has left)
Huron County. Mr. Taylor was
• the runner-up -to .Mr. Shepherd
in the, board election. last
December and as such was
entitled to appointment \ to the
post, , the board decided-; He
represents the Town of Wingham
and the Township of East

Wawanosh.

education, officiated at formal
ceremonies when Mr. Taylor
took the oath of office, followed
by the oath of allegiance He was
welcomed- to his seat -by Johnil
Levis of Clinton, board -
• chairman, and was appointed a
member of the various
committees on which Mr.
Shepherd served. For the first
time since June, all 14 members
were in attendance at a regular
meeting.
Among the 14 members thea
are now two Taylors, two
McDonalds and four Johns. The
newest member, John R. Taylor,
is a farmer; James Taylor resides
in He"nsall but operates a
business in Exeter. Donald
McDonald, RR 2, • Brussels; is a
farmer • representing : the
Townships of Grey and Morris,
and the Village of Brussels;
_Clarence McDonald is a
dairyman in Exeter land
represents the Townships of
• Usborne and Stephen and the
Town of Exeter.
The four Johns are John
,Lavis, Clinton; John Henderson,
• RR 5, Seaforth; John Bioadfoot,
RR 1, Brdcefield; -and John
Taylor, Belgrave. In addition
there are Mrs. John Wallace,
Goderich, and D. John
Cochrane, director of education.
