HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1969-08-21, Page 5Round and About Wih. Mutihu This weekend - Saturday' anyway, is going to be a busy one. Make your plans to be ON THE SQUARE -as that is where the action will be. The Goderich Booster ▪ Club on behalf of the Junior "B" Hockey Team is sponsoring a giant Barbecue "on The Square" - with 50 feet or so of roaring hot 'coals and can't you just smell that chicken - m -m -m! From 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. you can-bu..y. ,delicious. chic•ken•plate.. including baked `.potato and • other goodies -- *even dessert is supplied. So have your supper on "The Square," 'go and -see the Flower Show at North Street United Church. Also take in the "museumgbile" which will be in • Courthouse Park, August 20 to 31st. For you race fans - park your car near the track = real early - and have your supper with the Hockey Club - and feel that you are helping both winter and • summer sports, and the short walk to and from The Square will be good for you! I'in sure there will be lots of "litter cans" handy to keep, 'things tidy "uptown," but it seems some people have a -blind • spot where garbage and litter cans are concerned. As our, Editor suggested last week - a good fine of $25 or $50 - hitting these people in the pocketbobk- would make them check the littering - starting at 0 .• et r' 3 • • 0 • a home, as there is an age ggroup that' is going out of its way to make life difficult for all who believe in' discipline and • decency. The real young people are being taught to be thoughtful, it is the bigger kids who are acting stupid - and the clamp down should stat at home. I'rn sure it WOULD start at home if the parents were made to pay these fines for their unruly and ,careless.youngsters.. Wasn't it nice to see one of. our GDCI girls named an Ontario Scholar? - Brenda East with 82%, a pretty nice mark - as well as a pretty and nice girl. There are other girls and boys who have ando will be receiving awards and scholarships that deserve a bit of praise and encouragement - so be sure to give it when you hear of them. A little goes a long way with these youngsters: Saturday, August . 23, a Rummage Sale at the Salvation Army Citadel. Saturday and Sunday afternoons the 'Art Club members will have paintings on the groundsof our museum. You will find these quite interesting - as the girls probably have a lot of paintings they have not shown in the Art Mart. So now is the time to buy . a painting done by one of your local artists. You will be proud to own it and your artist will be mighty happy to have you enjoy it. Martha. NIGHT RACING GODERICH SATURDAY,AUG. 23 WEDNESDY.
