Mrs. Larry Sly (nee Joan
Sheppard) of Kingston visited on
Sunday with Miss Laura Phillips
who accompanied her, to Sarnia
toattend the funeral of David
Sheppard, , 17 -year-old son of
Thomas and, Marie Sheppard of
Sarnia'. ` David died aftevt' a
motorcycle accident. ' The
sympathy of the community is
extended to the Sheppard family
:who resided in ' Auburn ' for
several years when the
deceased's grandfatherwas bank
manager here. .

into the United 'Church nans1
,' last week t� take over 'the
Auburn -Donnybrook charges.

arrived home last weekend after
a couple of week's vacation in

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jardin
and family of Kitchener visited
last Friday with his grandparents
and her grandfather, Robert

Several Members of the
Auburn =WI attended the , Blyth
meeting last Thursday evening.
Walkerburn Club
The Walkerburn Club held
their monthly meeting at the
home of Mrs. Stewart Ament
with a good attendance. The
president,' Mrs. Ted Hunking,
was in charge of the'ineeting.
The minutes • of the previous
meeting were accepted as , read
by the secretary, Mrs. Elliott
Papp. The roll call was answered
by the paying of fees. The draw
prize, 'donated by Mrs. Guy
Cunningham, was won by Mrs.
Leonard Archambault. A
discussion took place about
holding ' a family ' get-together
and it was decided to hold it the
last Sunday' in July. if possible.
The election of officers was
to take place, but the slate was
not completed so this will be
finished;, at the August meeting.
Piano solos were played by
.Vaughan and Donna Hunking
and were much enjoyed. The
president invited the members to
her home,: for, the Augusta,
meeting. Lunch was ,served by
the hostess, assisted by Mrs..

MRS. WILLIAM CORY
Funeral services were held
last Monday for Mrs. William
Cory at the William Stiles
Funeral Home, Auburn. 'Mrs.
Cory was the former Hannah
Elizabeth (Annie)._ . Bean, the
daughter of the late Robert Bean
and Sarah Hasselwood of
England.
She was born in Colborne
Township and was married in
1913 to the late William Cory
and resided .in West Wawanosh
l `
Township untithey retired to
live in Auburn: She was a
member of Knox United
'Church,,
She is - survived by two
brothers, Robert Bean and David
Bean, both of Colborne
Township, and two sisters, Mrs.
William (May) Doak, and Mrs.
Hugh (Tena) Hill, both , of
Goderich.
Pastor Alfred Fry officiated
for the funeral service with
burial in ,Colborne cenietery.
Pallbearers were Donald Bean,
Verne Bean, Hugh Faegan,
James Faegan, Harold Doak and
Elwin Doak.
MRS. JOHN McDOWELL
Rev. iJre Stewart of Seaforth
conducted the funeral service for
Mrs. John McDowell who died
July .4 at Huronview after 'a
lengthy illness. Mrs. McDdwell
was the former Elizabeth Jane
Snell,T „ daughter' of the late
George' Snell and Jane,Bradford
and was • born in Mullett
Township. She was in her 83rd
year.....
In 1912' she married John L.
McDowell who passed away in
1950. She lived for many years
in the Westfield district and was
a member of the Westfield
United Church.
She is survived by one son,
Gordon, RR 1, Belgrave, and
three daughters, Mrs. Charles
(Evelyn) Smith, RR 1, Belgrave;
Mis. Gordon (Edythe)' Smith,
RR 1, Belgrave; and Mrs. John
(Jean) Gear of Waterloo, nine
grandchildren ' and five great
grandchildren.
The funeral service was held
at the William Stiles Funeral
Home with interment in Ball's
Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Norman McDowell, Harvey
McDowell, Lloyd Walden, Eddie
Taylor, Lyman Jardin and
Arnold Cook.
CHILDREN'S DAY
The annual children's day will
be held by the Auburn Women's
Institute on July 15. All children
of the community are invited.
Anyone wishing to take part in
the irbgi'am is asked to contact;
Mrs. Leonard Archambault, the
convener.

prior to her marriage this month.
Mrs. John Armstrong was
master of . ceremonies. and
presided for the program. A
sing -song was led by Mrs. Robert
J. Philips accompanied on the
piano by- Miss Nancy Anderson.
Miss Betty Moss pinned a
corsage on the bride-to-be and
Mrs, Ron Beecroft, pinned a
corsage ° on - her 'mother, Mrs.
Charles Merrill. Both were
escorted 'to the decorated chairs

Mrs. Wes Bradnock read an
address Of congratulations to
Miss Millian and gifts were
carried in by Sherry Plaetzer,
Marie Plunkett, Shelley Grange,
Jennifer Grange, Doreen'
M..c Clinchey and Lorraine
Chamney.- A . contest was
conducted by Miss Barbara
Carter, and the winners, Mrs
George Millian, Mrs. Gordon
McClinchey, Mrs. Norman
Wightman and Miss Betty Moss
sang an impromptu quartette
"Barney Google." Miss Marsha
Koopmans held- a contest on
birthdays and Mrs. Ron Beecroft
and 11its, William Moss were the
winners. A solo was sung by
Lorraine Chamney accompanied
by Miss Nancy Anderson. A
group of women holding white
tickets played a rhythm band
number of kitchen pans and
equipment presented to them by?'
Ness Carter.
Miss Millian thanked her

everyone to her trousseau tea on
July 12 at the home of her
